Well. I went ahead and did it. I've been impatiently waiting for the weekend to drop my truck off at the local off road shop for a light bar install. I got caught (the night I bought my truck) in a big rain storm and wasn't real impressed with the stock lights. So, I ordered some LED headlight replacements and decided on a stealth bar in the bumper. Being mechanically retarded, my goal was to just pay $3-500 for the bar install but they were booked for weeks. I decided to work from home today and take the "challenge" myself. I'm happy to say that it worked out pretty well thanks to Home Depot. Lol.

I've still got some testing to do on the level (tired tonight) but if anyone needs any help with the hardest part (bumper bolts and mount), feel free to ask a away.

The 30" Zombie bar comes with mounts that are too high for the location I chose in the lower bumper. It's probably the best location for the Zombie but I know Headlight Revolution has a grill bar with correct height mounts. I wanted a lower mount in the upper facia of the bumper and it's actually perfect with the L brackets I bought from Home Depot (eventually). Otherwise, the other three biggest challenges are - getting the plastic bumper cover off, finding the right mount and of course... getting the electrical through the firewall grommet.

I'll post the bracket name and manufacturer but it's basically just an L bracket from Home Depot to turn the mounts flush with the bar and adjust. I'll post pics tomorrow when I put everything back together. Otherwise, it looks great and is bright as hell.

Thanks man! Yeah, the Zombie 3d came with everything all nice and packaged - harness, switch, etc. The one thing I'm actually not all that happy with but works fine ATM, is the switch piece. It came pre-readied for a simple plug n play for the existing harness which was very easy, I'm just not all that fond of the switch and the fact it just sticks on versus routed in one of the blanks in the dash. It's a lit push button but seems to be always on (little red light) not being rigged to the ignition. I'll likely change that in the future and add a Halo switch of some sort and wire up to the ignition. For now, after all of that work... I'm good with how it is ATM. :)

I'm curious if anyone has ever been messed with by the police. That bar seems ridiculously bright but exactly what I wanted for saying "Hello" to bad drivers and the obvious of seeing during bad weather and poor lighting. Honestly, those GTR LED headlights are already super bright and about a 1000% upgrade over stock. Add in the light bar, and boom. Still, for $300 (got a deal from Mikes Off Road here in DFW) and some pain in the ass work, I can't complain.

Interesting on how the switch stays lit? Double check your wiring because if it's connected correct, the switch only lights up when you have it on? Not lit when it's in the Off position?

My switch has 3 connnections and I chose not to connect it to the ignition to turn it on/off at will. (Ground/Black wire, Acc. connected to positive/blue or red wire to Light Bar, Red/Constant connected the battery for power.)

Btw: do you have a Crewmax? I posted a brand new Bedrug for it....

    Thx

Light bars are considered off road use only. It is like your high beams though. Use them when no one is around but turn them off when you see oncoming traffic so you don't blind them. Also turn them off when you come up behind someone. Stick to that and the cops wont pull you over.

I love it, I'm trying to decide what bull bar I want and that will dictate where my lightbar will end up.

No worries. I ordered then Gen2 LED's by GTR Lighting from headlightrevolution.com. The site was easy and covered any and all LED options for virtually every year Tundra. They also sell (for a few bucks I think) LED bulb covers which adjusts the temperature or color of the bulb, so if you like a more blue look, it's a small cost versus entire bulb change to get the 20k look if you like it. I went with all bright white at 10k and I'm pretty happy so far.

Pay attention to how you put the bulb in and make sure both are inserted the same way so they have the same light pattern. Their videos are actually really helpful for all applications and extremely useful (for someone like me) if you're new to working on Tundra wiring, bolt location etc.

I actually ordered all my interior and exterior LED's from them s they had plug and play options for every light possible. They also have a stealth lightbar option that comes exactly per spec to mounting behind the grill. I ended up mounting mine in the lower bumper facia which looking back on it, was a beast of an install for a guy like me who knows squat about wiring, lighting or cars in general. Lol. If I can do it, almost anyone can. ;-)

Between that and a lift, those were the first things I HAD to do. I had a 3/1 lift done as I doubted my garages ability to handle anything much higher. I personally prefer a stealth look as I see a LOT of trucks running around with the same front push bar or grill with the light bars installed on the front an visible (in DFW at least). Check out headlightrevolution.com for their stealth product. I think it's $500 for the bar and everything needed (minus tools). I wanted to try their option but it was "sold out" so I just bought the 30" bar from Zombie.

My next feat is to attempt a single row bar in the hood bulge. I know everyone (including the local moderators) will warn about lightbars being "for off road use only" however I've found a few moments where it was useful on the road. No road rage incidents, just a wandering car who wasn't responding to my horn. It was useful on dark and rainy roads where no one was in front of me. My 30" Zombie 3D itself and LED headlights make a GIGANTIC difference in visibility for those conditions. PM me if you have any questions on any kind of stealth install. If there was a problem, I likely came across it during my install. Lol.

To be honest, those Gen2 GTR LED headlights make such a huge difference, I can't imagine keeping them stock. I'm all about HID's and there are some good folks on this site who make a projector lens that won't get you a ticket... but honestly I think I get a better spread pattern with my LED's. The HID's in my Maxima are nice for down the road but I see a LOT more of the road in my Tundra.
