So today I ordered a set of BFGoodrich All Terrain KO2's and the shop recommended they use "Equal" powder to balance them instead of wheel weights. I went with OEM size, 275/65/R18.

They also have road force, which is what I requested at first.

I am thinking of sticking with the Road Force, but wanted to see if you guys have had any experience with Equal.

    Thanks!

Sounds like bead balancing. I have my winter tires done that way. My buddy is a mechanic and has done all his personal vehicle that way for years. Only issue my buddy has mention is if the vehicle sits for a while the beads will stick together and you'll get a square tire feel for a couple miles when you first take of.

I had never heard of this and went on line to learn about it. I also spot checked several different forums and read discussions and reviews.
I suggest that you do the same.
What I learned is enough to never use the stuff. Moisture can make it clump up and it can get into the valve and cause slow leaks, apparently.
It’s also not as effective on wider tires.
If you choose to use it, please post back after a few months to let us know what the results are.

One thing I know is there is nothing wrong with road force....

a buddy used beads on his motorcycle wheels .. he swore by them

one day we were out for a long ride..
a bead got stuck in the valve stem when he checked air pressure.. & got a slow leak.
luckily I keep a small compressor in my saddlebag.. had to stop every 30 minutes or so till we got to a town with an open tire store.

    new valve stem please

I used to get the road force but didn't seem to make much difference. Can't hurt. I'd stay away from the "Equal". Road force really helps out a lot with low profile tire, tall rim setups that can pick up extraneous vibrations and amplify them. Well made high profile tires seem to be somewhat immune due to the the taller sidewalls. IMHO.

Exactly that, a shop tried it on my Jeep. It worked 'ok' for about 6 months then was worse than ever. Then they were mad they had to clean all of the crap out.

    Road Force it is.

Thanks for all the input guys!
