"Possible" Air Injection Pump failure. Truck will also go into limp mode when that happens. This is a known issue. If that is your problem..Toyota extended the warranty to cover it. Hasn't happened to me yet. Knock on wood.

Hope that did not happen, as Matt said it it could be in limp mode. Check condition of you charging system and batt. That's wear I would start.

By the way, what is "limp mode" and is it safe to drive with these issues?

I wouldn't plain any camping trips but would get looked at ASAP. As I remember I think something similar happed to me on my 89 toy, it was a bad alternator.

Limp mode is a default setting that kicks in when your system throws certain codes. It will allow you to place the transmission in gear and roll the truck at a limited and reduced speed. The engineered intent is to be able to “limp” to the shop without damaging the truck.

If there isn't a Check Engine Light, it's probably not the AIP.

    Not nearly enough room here!
I got some lights flashing just after buying my 2010 DC. Turns out I'm too deaf (on a noisy road), to hear the "click" on the Gas Cap and it triggered the warnings. Cleared- up on it's own after a few miles.

    Questions
    1. Have you checked your battery
    2. Do you drive it everyday
    3. Have you checked the alternator
    4. Have you checked the drive belt
    5. How cold is it

I ask because this happened to me last month and I thought it was the aip - then the alternator- and battery

Turns out I just needed to drive the thing. I only drove it on weekends and if my wife wanted to drive my Crosstour. It started on the first really cold day

I drove it exclusively for three weeks, got a good charge & the flashing lights stopped.

Had this happen after rats chewed my knock sensor. $30 part and dealership wanted $800 in labor to repair. Mine went into limp mode as well. Basically couldn’t drive faster than 55 on the highway.

    Dang.
I stopped by my local shop, had them pull the codes. He said it was a transmission control solenoid that tripped the error. Made me wonder if I threw it into park like someone else mentioned. Anyway, he wiped the code and all seems back in order.

Had this happen to me while monkeying around with the wiring. I believe I disconnected a fuse and the lights went on. I just drove it around the driveway a few times then disconnected the battery terminal and let it reset itself for a few minutes. Pushed the code away.

I had this on my 12. Would happen randomly in cold weather or like clockwork after towing about 400 miles straight. It was my AIP....theres a solenoid in them that randomly freezes up in the winter and gets stuck....tho doesn't explain my issue when towing....but alas....500 at the dealer took car of it and never saw it again all the way up to last week when I traded it in.

So i had this same happen to me. But also my shift lights on my dash went out and back up camera stopped working cause it can't tell that it's in reverse. Took it in to dealer said it was my shifter console. Extended warranty covered it. Got it back today and everything worked. Then ran some errands for about 2hrs and then it happened again. I'm not confident in the dealer's service techs. So throwing it up here. First time it happened was the weekend of 7/17/20.

Just happened to mine last nite 2013 crewmax. Truck ran fine. But check engine, traction control on continuous and 4lo flashing. Anyone have a true fix or could it be a few things?

You'll need to have the codes in order to determine what the ECU is detecting and doesn't like.

Had this happen to me a few months ago. Had the codes ran and had knock sensor. I had mice that chewed my knock sensor. 30 bucks and an hour of work and replaced the working harness. Some good videos on you tube on how to do it.

Did it to me when I pulled a fuse in the fuse box in the engine bay and forgot to put it back. Pulled the negative on the battery for a few minutes and it reset.

This just happened to me. My son left the key half turned and killed the battery to the point I had to keep jumpers on it for over 30min.

Been out of country for a few weeks and went to start the truck, its shaking and I get all these error codes. Drove it around the block, no fix. Disconnected battery for an hour and cleaned terminals. Now everything is back to beautiful

I had this same issue four years ago. Mine was a huge mouse nest under my intake manifold, with two knock sensors with severed chewed wires. I did all the work myself, so it wasn’t too bad. New knock sensors, gaskets, coolant, etc.

I think I did have a code though on my OBDII reader that led me to this issue.

    Good luck.
