i have done 1000's of oil changes. this is my first on my new truck. the oil change place wanted $160 bucks so i bought 0w-20 full synthetic mobil one and a filter kit with orings etc. changing the oil was no issue at all......but when i cranked it up to check everything before i put the skid plate back on it was pouring oil from the bolt right next to the filter housing....have no idea why....i never touched that bolt and it was not leaking there before.....what do i do....it is leaking really fast....i would probably not even make it to town

Get a different bolt and replace it to see if it stops.

Check to see if it's loose, as in finger tight. I'd gingerly snug it up. If that reduces the flow, then maybe one of the techs can chime in with a possible torque spec and some insight.

Yep, all of our trucks come with a plastic oil filter housing. When you buy the aluminum one, you will need to change the tube in the center with the one in the plastic one. The tube that comes with the aluminum one is too short. Simple swap. I've had zero issues with mine but only have 12K on it. And yes, I change my own oil.

No, that won't void the warranty. It's a genuine Toyota part.

Here's what everyone should do on their first oil change..
    - Buy the cap socket.
    - Replace the plastic cap with the aluminum one.
    - Install a Fumoto (formerly "quikvalve") nozzle.

Optionally: Use TRD filters and Royal Purple oil.

I basically have the same issue as the OP, I just bought the Toyota filter cap linked above to replace the Autozone one I bought which replaced the messed up OE one.

@mdavis My question is , do I HAVE to switch out the shorter tube that came in the one I just bought (toyota aluminum)? It's in there much more solidly than my original stock one, or the aftermarket Autozone one I'm using now (that leaks).

Yes, you have to switch the tube with your existing one. The one that comes with it is too long. You will not be able to screw the canister in with the new tube installed.

Kinda confusing........hopefully this makes more sense.. I'm confused and I know what I'm trying to say, lol.
The tube that came with the Toyota aluminum one is shorter than the plastic stock one (which I threw away because it wouldn't stay together), and shorter than the Autozone one I'm using in the truck now (which leaks). Basically the last 2 I've used have the long tubes and they don't stay in as solidly as the new one I just bought. Can I keep the short one on? It will definitely screw in because it's shorter than whats on there now.

When I say "stay in", I'm referring to the tube inside the filter housing.

You know what, I was wrong, the aluminum one does come with a shorter tube. Sorry, been awhile since I changed mine out. As far as you keeping the shorter one, I'm not sure if that would be ok or not. Wouldn't want to tell you wrong.

lol, no worries. Thats why I quoted your post because it mentioned the shorter one on the aluminum one. Anybody have an idea if I can keep the shorter one? What exactly do these tubes do other than keep the filter centered? Do they help disperse the oil through the filter?
