I bought myself some Noico 80 mil sound deadening mat off Amazon for xmas. I didn't get a whole lot. I wanted to start with front doors, mostly around speakers. I have read you really don't need to cover everything. My goal is to make the door a bit more solid and decrease some rattling.
I also have read about using frost king duct wrap as a cheap deadener, so depending on how things go I may grab some of that too.
I'd like to make the cab quieter and I realize these products are really not meant for that. But does it help? Or should I look into some MLV rolls? I don't want to spend a fortune but would like to knock down some road noise. Also where are the best places to use sound deadening to achieve this?
    Thanks

I went with raammat sound deadener in my Tacoma and it really reduced the road noise alot. Had it on most of the rear cab of the truck.

The frost king duct wrap might help a little with noise but it doesnt have the weight and rigidity that the sound deadener has to really quite the vibrations.

How much you put on the doors depends on a lot of variables. If you just have a small amp and aftermarket speakers you could probably get by with just a strip by the speaker. That’s all I did in my 4Runner. But in my Tundra all my doors look like this. I may take my truck back and get the roof, back wall and under the rear seat done if I change out my head unit this year. If road noise is a concern then the floor and doors may be where you want to start. I’m on 35’s and have a Dirty Deeds budget system. If the windows are closed it’s fairly quiet. You can still hear the exhaust... until you turn up the volume a little bit.

I have a stock stereo and don't have the money to upgrade it any time soon. I'll start with some behind the speakers and on the door. See how install goes, then this summer I'll plan on doing the back wall and see what I can do on the floors back there too.

Hey Pudge. I've got 2 boxes of 32 sq ft of the Noico 80 and also the Dynamat hoodliner for the engine waiting for warmer weather to install. Added some tape for edges and odd spots that is buytl like the noico. Its recommended to put a layer of sound proofing on the hood then the hoodliner on top of that to cut engine noise. For the money I would say it couldn't hurt to add to your project. I would also watch the how to videos on Taco tunes.com. in depth and very easy to follow on doors and cab soundproofing. Keep us posted on your work. From my research the product is more difficult to work with and the adhesive isn't great in the cold. Def need heated space for winter applications. Here's what I have on standby. Should be enough to do doors and rear wall and floor of cab in the back, and the hood. Between weather and work this may be a while for me. Good luck with yours.

I did the noico 80 as well when I did my install. Did the front doors (only the inside, door skin area and not any where the speaker mounts), floor and rear wall.

    The good:

    Inexpensive alternative
IMHO easy to install and get to stick (I’m in Florida cold is not an issue).
Does a decent job of taming road noise, does a better job of keeping the sound in the truck.
Made the doors feel real solid when closing and tapping or touching the panels.

The bad: none so far other than it never goes as far as you think it will lol.

I'll probably have to wait for warmer weather as well. I'll look into doing the hood like you said. Makes a lot of sense.

Would you remove and not reinstall the factory hood liner? I went out and looked and saw I have some kind if liner, it's small and I'm not sure what it's made of because it's dark out.

I've been out to sea and in Florida the last month so haven't gotten under the hood. I don't think mine has anything but its a limited. Maybe the platinum comes with a hoodliner for noise reduction. Post up a pic when you get a chance. But yes if you use the noico as 1st layer with Dynamat hoodliner on top I would not try to reinstall whatever is on there now.

Have you ever looked into MLV mass loaded vinyl or closed cell foam padding? I hear this is good for road noise. I'm not sure I'm willing to pull my seats and carpet to install it but it may make sense for inner door skins and the rear wall. I find it ranges from price similar to butyl deadening to outrageously expensive.
It doesn't stop vibration like deadening, it's more of a sound dampener I guess.

Wear gloves when installing. Aluminum foil cuts are a bitch.

There is another thread where a guy used all three types and had good results. Just trying to keep it simple and the mat seems easy to work with for the most part.

I did all my door on a DC and entire back wall with "Kilmat", only ran 65$ for about 50 Sq Ft. Does a real good job of killing the road noise.

I plan to use some dynamat or something similiar on the underside of my kitchen sink. It sounds so thin I can’t stand it, haha.

Ok irrelevant rant is over, sorry!

Nice. I'm looking forward to getting it done. Hopefully I'll catch a couple days of warm weather but it'll probably have to wait until spring.
