Worth the effort to get a TRD PRO?

I love there TRD PRO’s is it worth the effort and distance to get one or get a sr5 and make it look like a pro? Pros and cons of pros? I currently drive a 2010 rock warrior with 170 on the clock

If you want a Pro then buy a Pro. From what I have read here you will end up spending more for the suspension, exhaust, color match bumpers, grill, badging etc. to make it look like a Pro but in the end it will still be an SR5 with Pro upgrades.

To add to what I posted earlier. I learned the hard way when I had a Jeep that you should buy the vehicle you want. If that means waiting a bit then wait or you won't be happy. When I bought my first Jeep I wanted a Rubicon but didn't want to spend the extra $$ at the dealer. My intent was to make my sport in to a Rubicon. What I quickly found out was that it was going to cost me more to do it aftermarket then to just buy it off the lot. I only kept that first jeep 2 years then traded it for the Jeep I really wanted.

Unless you really want the bedstamps then get an SR5 or Limited.

For the money saved you could upgrade to LED headlights/ Pro grill / Pro rims / some way better coilovers for less than the Pro would cost IMO and have the looks of the pro with better suspension / headlights.

They stopped making the Pro so there is a limited supply of new ones. Dealers know this and are charging out the ass.

    Good luck either way!

You got everything right, but the steps. Steps do not come stock on the Pro and if they do I got screwed.

OP, if you know you want a pro, get a pro

I was on the fence between two choices when I was shopping used. I found a Platinum and a TRD Pro, both 16's, almost identical mileage, condition, and price. I ended up with the Pro, and I'm very happy with it. I can do without dual zone climate control, don't care about a sun roof, and will soon be adding heated seats for about $100. Had I purchased the platinum, or an SR5, it would have been a hard sell to my CFO to add the cost of a legit suspension lift, Pro Grill (necessary) and exhaust. The only thing I'd change about my Pro is the wheels. Not that I don't like the look, but it seems like you need a different offset to successfully run 35's.

With the exception of the items listed above by aramirez (minus steps), the Pro is seriously lacking in factory options (i.e. heated/cooled seats, auto dim headlights, dual zone climate, etc.). You could basically get a Platinum with every option available for a Tundra for about the same price as a Pro. With that being said a Pro is a Pro. An SR5 with Pro accessories will never be worth as much (or be as desirable as) a Pro. No half ton on the market (including the other model Tundras) will ever retain the same resale value as a Pro. That is basically why I bought mine.

Ehh I wouldn’t get a Pro at this point. You are too late to the game....if you are looking at one of the last new 17s you will pay a premium for it.

I went from a Limited, to a Platinum, to a 1794, and then to my Pro. The Pro is my absolute favorite of them all. I don't miss the auto climate control or the heated seats (being in Texas helps). The cooled seats didn't really work and I was getting way too dependent on blind spot monitoring. I figured I'd miss that more than anything, but I don't. The sonar when backing up was kind of cool, but again, I was getting way too dependent on it.
The Pro just feels good to drive - it's loud but not obnoxious, the ride is amazing, and it seems more responsive. I couldn't be happier.
I guess I could have bought a Platinum and added the exhaust and suspension but my wife would have divorced me in the process.

We've worked with many PRO owners and have loved the feedback.. Some guys buy a platinum and swap out for the PRO suspension and grill, others buy the SR5 and do the same thing but if you watch the resale of a actual PRO its amazing how well they're keeping there vale. If your budget allows for the PRO my vote would be the PRO. Best of luck :)

I'm just curious: what part of the country are you guys in buying PROs? There were zero new PROs within 500 miles of me when I was looking in July-Sept. One dealer about 10 minutes away had a used one with 30k miles on it but was asking $49k... I didn't even bother.

When I checked at end of August there were 5-6 available in Texas. In June I could have picked up one at $2500 off MSRP but I wanted to wait. By the time I bought dealers were wanting MSRP. I could have bought a cement Pro from dealer I bought my TSS from but did not want cement. They were really pushing it and probably could have got for a small discount. I checked inventory a week ago and I think there were 3 left here in Tx. I was really wanting a Pro mainly for the interior. In the end I turned my truck in to what I wanted for thousands less and in my mind got better tires. Michelins are great tires but needed something with more tread.

I got a pro because that's what I thought I wanted... but the only thing left on the truck that's unique to the Pro are the seats and bed stamp lol. It depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to get a pro to have a pro and keep it a pro (or semi pro), then get a pro. If you like modding your truck to make it your own then get an SR5 and make it better for the same price or less considering how much they are selling for now

I had a deal with the owner of the dealership and could have had any tundra i wanted, same deal. I got exactly what I wanted and have zero regrets. Don’t want heated and cooled seats, sunroof, leather, auto dimming lights or a crew max cab.
Resale value doesn’t mean much to me either, since I don’t expect to ever sell it. I’m 62 now and expect that 20 years from now I will be more worn out than this truck.
I never had a truck with a better ride on or off road. I’ve owned over 17 trucks and had probably 15 company trucks over the last 35 years. The pro is pretty nice.

I did a 17 SR5. I added leather seats (with red stitching), Dual Factory exhaust, 6120s/5110's leveling kit. I had exhaust and seats factored into the sale price and financed it at 1.9% from my credit union. it's all about how you want to approach the problem!
Either way, you will have the best built truck in America.

Well said - I was happy with every Tundra I owned but this Pro made me the happiest. The truck is awesome, you just need to pick the version of it you like best.

40K miles means he virtually never took it off road. Owner was probably in sales and the truck was arm candy.
If you can get a car fax report and confirm maintenance records, that’s about the least damaging kind of miles you can put on a vehicle. Just my opinion, but it’s worth checking out. If it’s still looking good after the research, test the water with an offer.

i came for a 2012 f150 harley with all the bells and whistles to my 2016 PRO. i knew i was going tundra just wasnt sure on the trim. i though about sr5 and then upgrading. also considered a higher trim and upgrading. i drove a few and then i drove a 15 pro. i was sold the moment i got out. ride is amazing, looks great, and has what i need in a truck. so i started my search and came across what i considered a good deal. 2016 PRO with 8500 miles for 41500. and it had a few upgrades already, some i kept and others i have sold to help fund a few of my own upgrades. now i did travel for it, about 950 miles but i made it a week long road trip for me and the family and saw some places i have never seen.
at the end of the day id do it again tomorrow. a pro is a pro and a limited, sr5 ect... is not. the only thing im spoiled on that i will be adding very soon is a set of amp steps. every truck i have had recently has had factory power steps and they have proven very useful, especially with a 4 and 6 yr old

The Pro is Toyotas "turn key" 4X4. Pretty good as is. Very good actually. Unless you DIY with a SR5. Much more fun that way. For what it's worth... I would like a Pro.

If you’re going to do anything to build up your truck don’t waste money on a PRO. If you’re gonna leave it stock and want what it offers go for it. And despite what some will say you can get an SR5 and make it look like a pro and have better off road performance for less
