Considering trading my '17 Limited CM on '18...SR5 same as Limited?!

Dealer says he'll sell me the '18 Cement SR5 for 42.5k (nav, trd, sr5 upgrade, etc) and give me 40 for my '17 limited with 20k miles.

sticker was 47k on the SR5! that's legit Toyota options, not aftermarket dealer stuff. My Limited stickered at 47k....what's the deal here? can I expect a similar deal on a Limited CM?

I am hating my leather seats (too stiff) and have installed cloth on the drivers seat. seems for $2500 I could get a brand new truck with cloth and the only thing I'd be giving up is heated seats (can do myself), sunroof and auto hvac.

I'm told you can turn off the TSS stuff. new dash is a bit cooler (OMG you can SEE the speed!) and I might be crazy but I felt like the steering wheel came out a touch further and fit me better.

 

Sounds like a good deal. Trading in a 1 year old truck with 20K miles for a new '18 and only add $2.5K (+ whatever you owe between the $47K you paid on the LTD vs the $40K they are giving you? ).

 

Not a bad deal at all. If you're ok with the stuff you're losing then definitely go for it.

What options are on the SR5? Sounds way too high.....obviously not the same color....just showing the price....they have a lot full of them around this price

 

Ya. You should be able to get an 18 Limited for around 42-43k. This price is east of the Mississippi River. I don't know why but during my research for a 2018, the tundra gets more expensive as you go west. Just use this pic to negotiate a better price where you are. Remember, just tell them that you will travel out of state to save a few grand when they try to call you out on it.

 

That's actually a tough call. Sounds like you are simply considering the trade because you don't like the leather? You want to turn off the TSS? The only reason I went for a 2018 was because of the TSS, LED headlights, blind spot monitoring and (believe it or not) the auto high beams...the TSS stuff actually works well. However, the TSS stuff does create some problems if you want to do a lot of mods. The radar is in the grill and there are additional sensors for cross traffic. If you start doing mods I think it could mess up the balance and make the system unreliable JMHO.

A lot of people want the TSS stuff and it will raise the resale value I believe. But then, a lot of people want leather and the auto climate controls. Personally, if I were you I'd just wait for the redesigned Tundra in year or two.

 

+1, not sure what the sales tax rate is in your state but you have to figure you will be paying that again net of the trade if you go that route. If you itemize tax deductions the impact will be less but you better hurry before the jerk offs in congress take deductions away.

 

That seems very high for an SR5. I paid that for my '17 Limited, that has leather, sunroof, etc. And on resale, you will make out better with the Limited than the SR5.

 

The TSS-P, LED headlights and fog lights were must-haves for me and I even paid extra to get the blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert, that was the reason I waited for the 2018 model before trading my F-150 for a Tundra.
Although the deal they offered you doesn't sound bad but why would you upgrade and pay more money if you plan on turning the TSS-P functions off? I think you are better off keeping your current truck,

My '18 limited with the premium package was $49,5XX. I got it for $43,9XXX. Just to give you an idea of the discount. A limited without the premium packed was $42,000. This was for a Crew Max 4X4 TRD in Colorado.

 

This sounds exactly like my truck (same MSRP, trim, and package). I bought at the end of September when the rebate was $750 on the 2018s and paid $44,800 in Oregon.

OP, that price on the '18 SR5 does sound a bit high.

 

You guys did better then I did. My Limited was 51K and I got about 4K off, the 18's do sell pretty quick around here though and could have saved around 7K on a left over 2017 1794.

I’m guessing you are going to pay taxes, new resgistration etc. I would guess you’ll be out five grand or more.
I would stick with the Limited IMO.

I was driving Fords for a quite a while, my last two were a 2015 King Ranch 5.0 and the one I traded in on my Tundra was a 2016 Platinum 3.5 EB, both trucks had LED lights, adaptive cruise on all the other high tech stuff. I did a lot of research and thought about it long and hard and I knew with the 2018 model I could get just about all the amenities and safety features I wanted and that I am used to having. I guess my main concern was the fuel mileage of the Tundra, some owners only average in the low teens. I test drove several Tundras and I really liked the solid feel of the truck.

I ended up getting a 2018 Limited with the premium package, moon roof, rear stabilizer, TRD package and some other small extras. There are two things that I couldn't get which are the push button start and factory remote start (will be available hopefully soon and then I get it). I do not miss the twin panel sunroof because they either leak or rattle. I don't miss the massage seats because I never used them, to me they are a novelty and a good conversation piece, that's it. For the money I paid I could have bought a Tundra Platinum or 1794 but I didn't want the perforated/ventilated seats ( a PIA to get any crumbs or dirt out of the tiny holes).

So far I have put about 2000 miles on my truck and my average mileage is about mid 18 mpg, I am happy with that. I don't hotrod my truck and drive the speed limit, maybe 3 mph over. That is about 2-3 mpg less then I averaged in my last Ford. As far as performance is concerned I would say it is equal to the 5.0, don't expect the low end grunt of the 3.5 EB. Just like the 5.0 if you get on it and let it rev it will scoot (with a nice V8 sound to boot). Handling and comfort is equal to the F-150.

I mostly traded because I really like the looks of the truck (minus the big fat chrome nose/grille), the solid feel, the past and predicted reliability and the proven high resale value. I was also getting tired of all the recalls, warranty issues and TSB's for my Fords. To be fair I have to say that I had a good dealer who didn't give me the runaround and all the issues were fixed under warranty. That doesn't take away from the fact that it is inconvenient having to take your truck to the dealer for unscheduled repairs on a regular basis.

See for yourself, check the problems owners have on this forum and then go to any F-150 forum and you see what I mean. Most F-150 owners will tell you that the Tundra is dated. I think they are correct and that is also the reason why it is refined and reliable.

I guess if I have one gripe it would be the JBL premium stereo. It is OK at best but a far cry from premium and doesn't even come close the sound my F-150 had. The head unit is nice, the sound sucks (I am in the process of fixing that).

In summary I haven't regretted my decision a single moment and would do it again in heartbeat.

The entune system Toyota has sounds way better than my 2015 f150 system. Which system are you replacing it with and how many items?

Being a XLT(?)I guess you have the regular stereo in your F-150, my Platinum had the upgraded version with sub and it did sound better then the JBL in my Tundra. I ordered the JBL Enhancement kit from OEM+ Audio for my truck, I think that is all I need. Here are two photos of my truck, one when I picked it up and one after I changed the grille. Besides that I have a Mx4 BakFlip cover, LED bed light kit, EGR in-channel visors (same as WheatherTech at 1/2 the price) and the tailgate Pop & Lock). I replaced the grille because I didn't like all the chrome but that is just my taste, you may like it.

re. sales tax I would only pay it on the difference in trade and new vehicle.

part of the motivation is my truck was hit by a massive buck a year ago on pearl harbor day (poetic but still a pisser) and while the repair is very good and only involved panels (no suspension parts, frame damage, cab damage, etc) it still bothers me a bit.

that said I'm leaning to waiting on the redesigned tundra. if they screw up and go cyl deactivation, aluminum panels or the like i'll consider grabbing a 3.5 gen from a dealer late in the year.

MSRP on my truck was 50950.00 (including dealer installed exhaust tip and TRD shift knob) and I paid 47900.00, I am sure discounts will vary by region and availability. Maybe I could have dickered a little more but that isn't my thing, I am good with what I paid.

read the online directions last night. Looks like a pretty darn simple process.

wonder why they only have two mounts on these. seems like you could add two more idler arms on each side for seriously steady steps. reviews seem to say they are great as is though.

truck just looks SOOO much better without running boards. especially with stock tires.

 

That is a matter of opinion. I actually like the looks of my running boards, I am not a fan of chrome tubes or the Predator steps, again, just my choice.

I had electric running boards on my F-150 and didn't like them because they stuck out to far when they were turned on and I constantly hit my legs on the board. I had them turned off unless my wife was riding with me. On top of that the Ford owner manual had something in there about not using them during snowy/icy conditions because they could freeze up (stuck) and there is a chance to damage the motors.
