ICON Suspension/JBA UCA/17" Icon wheels and Wrangler Kevlar

I believe I found my suspension/uca/tire/wheel combo, however, has anyone had these MT/R's? I have always loved Goodyear throughout the years b/c my dad always had them and they treated him right and the reviews on this tire, everywhere, seem to be highly positive. Anyhow, would love some feedback from you guys. I guess its personal preference, but I like feedback to help me determine best way. My UCA is by JBA, heard good things. Suspension is going to be stage 3 kit from Icon. I was considering the ToyTec (but more negative reviews than I cared to hear) http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com...c-Complete-Performance-3-Lift-Kit_p_1733.html Anyhow, looking to do a very solid lift to an ailing stock suspension in 2007 CM. I tow horses, drive on shitty DC/city roads, and do minor to moderate offloading.

Icon is never a bad choice from the reviews I’ve read on here. Don’t have any experience with Wrangler MTR’s.

Where did you hear anything bad about Toytec? Just curious since I haven’t heard much negative about their suspension.

 

Other forums. I’ve read that there has been issues with the front coils and such. Not performing to their standards. I know that is all subjective, but concerning. I’m still not 100%, but close on the Icon.

 

I did hear of @COMiamiFan’s coils collapsing on the 2.0’s, but that was due to bad batch. I haven’t heard of any on the Radflo’s yet. But I can’t blame ya for being concerned. Have ya looked at ADS or Kings?

 

You can’t go wrong with MTR Kevlars. Probably the best tire on the market for a mud terrain. The hardcore wheeling guys run them and they even get run at King of the hammers, arguably one of the hardest races on the planet.

I’ve had a couple sets and currently have a set of 37s on my jeep. Super strong sidewalls and reasonably quiet mud terrain. Never had an issue with sidewalls and they have lasted a long time. Just make sure you get the Load E range versions due to the weight of our trucks.

ADS, ehhh?? Haven't looked into them for some reason.

 

I looked at Kings and literally just looked up ADS. ADS is more serious than what I'm looking for. For some reason, I just like all one kit. I like how Icon stages their kits out. I don't want to piece mine together as I just don't know enough. I just know that when assembling these kinds of things, the parts like working with parts that were built for each other. Just my way of thinking. I'm sure ToyTec produces good stuff, and I'm willing to take a gamble on them at the right price. As for the 2.5's, you may be right. Radflos makes good stuff. I'm open-minded here.

I feel ya, it makes life a lot easier if it’s just all in a kit together. I did research for a year while I was saving up for the Radflo 2.5’s, and I already had the 2.0 rears. If I outgrow this suspension in a few years I’ll be doing a lot of research before I upgrade. I’d of never had a clue without this site and the experts on it.

 

Also good. They are fairly quiet, balance out fairly well and they wear out evenly. To give you an idea, my jeep has no roof and I drive it doorless with the 37s. It’s hardly a hum that I can hear from the tires and can still have a conversation inside, even at highway speeds. Other tires, like some Toyos or other brands, this would be impossible.

I haven’t heard anyone complaining of cupping or having issues with tread wear. Between all my buddies and I, we’ve probably had like 7-10 sets over the years and none of use have ever had any issues. It’s by far my favorite tire, period. At least in a mud terrain. Also, I’m convinced the sidewalls are bullet proof.

It seems that the rake on a stage 3 is level or slightly negative. I want to eliminate that at all costs. I would rather have a positive rake of .5" or a full inch. Are there good affordable options to get that rear end up?

 

I think im sold on these. Now, if I can just get my mortgage payment moved one month I'll afford these. lol

yes. the kit you listed in your 1st post has them. Set them to the max at rear. Adjust coilovers front. You will be leveled.

 

Shackles with an AAL is ok?

 

I want a slight rake, b/c I currently run OEM wheels with 305/65/18 Falken's on a 3/1 level kit from RC. I would like to switch to the Icon stage 3 kit and keep the same look now, but with a bump in rake. My wheel combo will come later, so I'm gonna max these tires out before I switch to the new wheel/tire combo. Basically, I want the same look I have now with a bump in rake and obvious performance increases with the new suspension. that is my goal.

 

yes basically you'll be back to a 3/1 but with better suspension components. Are you planning on towing or set your truck as an expedition rig ?

 

After another year or so on these Falkens I'll decide to either go with 17 or 18" wheels and proceed with the GY MT/R's or BFG's. like the looks of those two the most.

 

I do tow horses, and I just like a lifted butt.

 

you might want to add airbags or aftermarket leaf pack so it doesn't sag. I personally run Deaver leaf pack with shackles. Also check ATlas or OME. That will lift your rear a bit and not sag under heavy load.

 

So this gets to my point. Since the stage 3 comes with An Add-A-Leaf, why would I want to buy another leaf? DO these leafs sit higher than the AAL from Icon? My question stems from the fact that when I type in "stage 3 lifts" on google, I get pics of trucks that look awesome, but not the way I want. I figure if they are maxing out all coils, with an AAL, why does it still look level? I have thought shackles in addition to, but I thought that would be bad due to having shocks maxed and the AAL. Make sense?

 

Just from experience, if you’re loading heavy on a regular basis then take the advice @TheBeast has given. The AAL is fine, but shackles and an aftermarket full leaf pack with maybe a slight lowered front coil over should do what you want

 

I’ve done the AAL and I’m back to negative rake. Just pony up and take the secure route as I listed in the last quote
