    Hello group,

Bought a 18 Sky silver Tundra platinum last week.

But had to take it back to the dealer the first day I had it because the safety sense system was malfunctioning. Cruise control, precollision system and trailer brake system malfunctioning lights came on all of a sudden. Service dept said it’s the yaw sensor, which is currently back ordered so it could be a while before I get my truck back.

Anyone else having issues with the 18 tundra safety sense system?

I'd be pissed and asking for another truck. Good luck with whatever you decide

Funny you say that.. I told them I didn’t want to wait so they got in a replacement one. It was a black one and didn’t have the tube steps and paint film on it so they had to install it. I went to pick it up this morning and noticed there was a scratch on the fender. It was about 1.5” long but deep enough it would catch with your finger nail. Detail shop couldn’t buff it out so they said it would have to go to the body shop for compound polishing. I told them I was not okay with that and that I didn’t want it.

I wouldn’t want it because it’s black. Never again for me. Silver is a much better choice if you care what your truck looks like all the time.

Yeah it was my last color choice. Silver, gray, white where my first three color choices. The smoked mesquite is a weird color

My 2018 Platinum started having the same issues last week. Lights and error messages come on exactly after 1.5 miles of driving every morning. I’m able to bypass the errors by shutting off the truck and then turning it back on, lights flash for a while and then go away. Dealer called me this afternoon and said Toyota wants them to call them on Monday. We’ll see how that goes.

I’m not pissed by any means just yet, just an big inconvenience really.

I had the exact same problem. On the way home from buying it. 64 total miles and I took it back and had them find me another one in a different color. All is well with my 2nd one. Good luck!

Could be. I don’t know if the part is backorderd because it’s an 18 model or because it’s a frequent problem. I think the whole sensor design is bad (in the front emblem) When I was driving the loaner Tundra, I got an error message aaying the cruse control wouldn’t work and that I needed to clean off the sensor. It wasnt dirty at all. Just light rain

Exact same problem. The service guy told me the next day that it was a computer and it was backordered coming from overseas and it would take a week or so. So I walked over to my salesman and said get me another 1794 in Barcelona red or give me my keys back to my trade in. They gladly complied...I even got free predator steps and a tonneau cover for the inconvenience.

Sure was cold and the first snow that stuck of the year and everyone forgets how to drive. We had a ton of accidents today.

I've had an 18 for a few months and no issues with Safety Sense. Where are you guys located that you are having issues...any extreme weather situations?

Hmm, wonder if they will do a recall since it’s a safety feature

They prob hate me right now. They had to bring the silver one in from another dealer an hour away. And the black one was brought in from another dealer four hours away. I’m almost glad the black one didn’t work out. It wasn’t in love with the color. Now I just gotta wait

I would think there would have to be a bunch of folks having this issue. On The All Out Tundra FB Page there are quite a few folks with the same issue. It’s pretty incredible but expected with new stuff on these trucks I guess. Good luck!

Mine came from a dealer in middle TN. Aren’t all the Tundras made in TX?

    From Google
Initially built in a new Toyota plant in Princeton, Indiana, production was consolidated in 2008 to Toyota's San Antonio, Texas, factory and is the only full-size pickup truck manufactured in Texas. The first generation Tundra had many similarities with the older Toyota T100 and the compact Toyota Tacoma.

I bought my truck back in October with 6 miles on the odometer and had zero issues up until 3k miles. I started getting a “Precollision Warning System Unavailable” shortly after. That was intermittent. It’s been at/near freezing temps here in the Seattle area, especially around 5am when I’m on the road. That’s when I started getting the other error messages. Funny thing is that it wouldn’t come on during the afternoon commute home. I was at 4200 miles this weeks so I figured I’d bring it in and have the 5k service done at the same time.

It’s not a big deal and I’m sure Toyota will resolve the issue so I’m not too concerned about it.

Umm, ...try going from a Platinum Tundra to a RAV4.

It’s not bad, just tight on space compared to the CM when you have 2 kids in the back and lug around stollers.
