so my scs wheels are coming soon and I’m debating on moving my existing tires or buying 295’s for the new wheels.

What tire options are there for this size? What do you have and do you like it? I want an All Terrain tire. Has to be severe snow rated.

    1. Cooper SST maxx
    2. Nitto Terra Grappler
    3. Nitto Ridge Grappler?
    Post up!

***solved : went with 295/70R18 Toyo Open Country ATII Extreme. Damn that was a long sentence!

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
Is there a reason you wouldn't consider KO2s? I'm having this same debate in my head.

The severe snow mountain snowflake symbol seems to be quite elusive for 295/70/18. Goodyear Duratrac and Yokohama Geolandar are the two that I have found so far. If the BFG KO2 came in 295 it would be my first choice. I may end up getting them in 35", but it isn't clear to me if that size retains the severe snow rating.

You forgot to include the best AT tire company out there. Toyo I would get the AT2 over the Terra Grappler and the Toyo RT over the Ridge Grappler.
Out of the options above I would go Cooper St maxx. If you want to hear more about the St Maxx check out the thread on Tacomaworld. There are a lot of guys running them in the snow. Also expedition Portal has a big thread on them. Definitely a proven tire.

I know it's considered a mud terrain tire, but the people I've talked to that have Cooper STT Pros say they have pavement and wear characteristics closer to an all terrain tire, while being awesome off road. I'm getting mine on tomorrow, hopefully. Tirebuyer is running 10% off Cooper, and another $50 off if you ship to one of their installers.

I’d be going for ST Maxx’s or RG’s if it were me. TG’s just have way to much of a HT look to me, though from what I’ve heard they are good tires. @matluth has good things to say about the ST Maxx’s that’re on his Tundra right now. If you haven’t bought tires in a month or two I’ll be able to have a real opinion on the RG’s.

    They don’t make KO2’s in a 295/70-18.

It looks like the ridge grapplers are severe snow rated. It’s not a bad looking tire.

    Coopers just off that list..
My opinion is KO2 for better all around.
Duratrac if you want a little more agressive and road noise.

Just a few, more to come
Ridge Grap's, but they're not severe snow rated. Neither is the ST maxx.
On my 2nd set(sold the first set on the truck, new set on my new truck) and no complaints so far. Very good tire. Tried the ST Maxx and went back to the Ridge grap after 3 weeks on the Maxx. The Maxx was far from a bad tire, it just didnt particularly excel anywhere, and compared to the ridge grapplers they were louder, rougher, and had worse handling characteristics. Traction was similar between the 2 in the conditions I encountered, but the ST Maxx may do a bit better offroad and in light mud as they have a little more void between lugs

If you're looking for severe snow rating then the Duratrac is a contender, but I dont recall if they have the 295/70 size. Might also look at the Pitbull PBX AT but I think they only come in 35/12.50

I'm glad to hear so many people suggesting BFG KO2, I really like mine also, but they don't come in 295/70/18. @BlueBottle was specifically asking for recommendation for severe snow rated 295s.

The KO2 comes in the 305/65r18 you have now. Also a 325/65r18 - and so do your Falken’s.

yeah I am trying to get a taller tire than my current setup. 295/70 is the easiest to fit. Joon runs it and he never had to chop his Body Mount.
