2017 SR5 with 15k on the clock. As the cool weather has come around, my dash has developed the most annoying plastic on plastic creak/squeak that I cannot seem to find. I’ve double checked all the obvious spots to include the glove box and dash speaker covers- even drove around with the covers removed for a few days and no change.

My Wife thinks it’s behind the radio and I guess the FRAC harness wire stuffing could be rubbing somewhere.

Before I pull out the stereo, I thought I’d check for other obvious or common areas that creak.

    Thanks

Same as mine in my 2017. Started with the colder weather, or possibly the frac install. I already checked the frac harness. It's coming from around the glove box/radio.

I would say that's probably the culprit...the frac install...I have a 2014 with 48000 miles NO frac install no creaking squeaking noises at all

I’ve got the same issue. Passenger side dash area is what it sounds like to me. I’ll be following this thread to hopefully see a fix...

I have the same but no FRAC installed. It is worse when I’m getting on the gas, pretty sure it’s the a pillar handle panel

Same, 2017. Only with colder weather. Seems to be coming from dash/glove box/radio area. Driving me nuts!

I think I have the same issue. I’ve got a ‘17 Platinum with 7300 km and the rattle I’ve had for the past month or so, sounds very similar to what’s being explained in this thread. This may be an odd question but was is the FRAC that’s being referred to as the possible culprit?

Sounds like this may be common in '17s. I thumped around a bit today and couldn't isolate it. Too far to lean while driving.

Today I made it go away

I had my son fold a small piece of paper and wedge it under the oh shit handle panel at the bottom to apply pressure. Not sure that was it.....but it stopped

The handle on the a-pillar or above the passenger door?

bottom of the A-Pillar panel by the dash speaker grill. It might not be the answer but it certainly went away today when we rigged it up. I don't like having to "rig" anything inside the cab where you can see it. looks ghetto but if it doesn't happen anymore then i'll figure out a more permanent solution

    Yup, as I mentioned above.
I had squeaks from there myself. You can also see where the speaker has actually wore into the a pillar panel a little from dash vibrations.

It's really only when i'm giving it a substantial amount of throttle, but yes...same here.

by the way, you need to wipe that dash down a bit :boink:
Mine gets the same way and I have to clean the interior regularly

It probably is common to the 17s. My 17 didn't have any noises. My 17 has had 4 in different spots in the interior. I found them all except the passenger side dash rattle. Those that don't hear it should drive with the radio off to see if it's there

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same annoying squeeky sounds when the temp dips. It sounds like it’s coming from that spot on my 17’ as well.

I have 21000 on my ‘17 CM and I have a rattle in the driver side door panel coming from the master control switch. The dealership tried putting felt tape around the switch to tighten it up but they only made it worse. It only rattled when it was cold, now it does it constantly.

Man, this is making me crazy and it’s getting worse. It isn’t the a-pillar/dash speaker cover in mine - I drove with them out. The glove box is empty. Wife says it sounds like it’s coming from behind the radio, center dash. I guess my next step is to pull the radio and dive around with it out to try to isolate the noise. For me it’s a hard plastic on hard plastic creaking.

Exact same as mine. I might describe it as plastic on plastic tapping in fast succesion. I have some free time coming up I might go at it then.

Not isolated to the 2017, my 2018 has some creaking/thumping noise at times since it got colder. I think it comes from the center console, not very noticeable and it goes away once the interior warms up. I just try to ignore it. Not Toyota specific either as my previous truck (F-150) did it as well. My wife's BMW on the other hand is whisper quiet.

If you have noises from the glove box and its still there with nothing there.....could be the ECM in the firewall.

Toyota was diagnosing some issues for me, they isolated one to be the ECM bracket. They reinforced it and noise no longer present. I think I have read a few others with the same experience in regards to the ECM making noise.

Most trucks are going to be noisier than a sedan. They are box on frame design and we'll, it's a truck. However they don't have enough to be noisy. My 16 Tundra which got totalled had zero rattles. Something must have changed with the 17s

my creak on my '16 is from the passenger side dash area. Just sounds like the plastic on the air bag area rubbing where it meets the harder plastic vent/dash area. Happens whether its cold or hot.

I tried isolating mine over the last week. It is not the A-pillar or headliner. It could be the glove box bottom as mentioned earlier in this thread. It is very noisy when I tap it. trying to shim it seems to have made the rattle worse. Could also be the ECM bracket since I played with that as well
