Thinking 3-6 months out seeing how many vendors we have here that are participating in the prize giveaways...

We may have to do a "top 2" prize award -- where one is a runner up...if we have enough entities...

Can I just use my how to do an alignment at home thread?
It's Toyota specific, informative, humorous, some dickhead connotations, and moderately helpful.

This is an article that I wrote in mid-2013 for the Toyota Trails about our club's 1st annual wheeling event, Mardi Krawl. It was published in the July / Aug 2013 edition of the Toyota Trails magazine. Unfortunately, the editor spelled the event name wrong in the title of the article. It's not Tundra specific but it is very Toyota related........
    GroupPhoto_zps853ff823_07c00cc45a54e63d65eb19ff579eff3269b0d217.jpg

So, it's mid November 2012 and Jonas Owens brings up the idea for a Louisiana Land Krewesers (LLK) event called Mardi Crawl. I said that I had the same idea but I wanted to call it Mardi Krawl since we are the Krewesers. The BOD had a discussion about it and thus, the 1st Annual Mardi Krawl was born. It was set for April 4 – 7, 2013.

    1001671_646625748699442_1586041423_n_zps_e1ab5474cf5999e8e6896a338095527a52f8f279.jpg

Trying to find a location for the Krawl proved easier than we thought. At the end of December, a group of 8 LLK members in 4 rigs went to Hawk Pride Mountain Offroad Park in Tuscumbia, AL. The park has over 1000 acres and despite the rain, sleet and snow, our scouting krewe had a really good time. They reported back to us continually that they were having fun, there were lots of trails and best of all, Mark Smith, the owner, had plans for improvements. And if that wasn't enough, Mark was very helpful and accommodating. Erick Buvens, as usual, did something he shouldn't have and managed to put his driver front wheel into the wheel well and the UCA into the motor out on the trails. Without hesitation, Mark offered up his shop that is on the grounds and they were able to get Erick's rig back up and running. The facilities in the campgrounds are fairly new and there was plenty of camping space. It was decided that this would be the place for our 1st Annual Mardi Krawl.

As we got closer to the event, we thought it would be a good idea to see the park first hand to plan out the fine details for the Krawl so we planned a quick weekend trip in March. We knew it was going to be cold but had no idea just how cold. It started snowing Fri night and didn't stop until we were getting ready to leave on Sun morning. We had a great weekend of fun, except for Jonas who broke his CV axel on Jester…..Jester 1, Jonas 0. But Mark came to the rescue again, offering up his shop to get Jonas back up and running.

    DSC_0295_zps4c323a26_3e65a6fd06a495902cba500c349536d4f2bf24cf.jpg

So leading up to the event, I was thinking we would have a few of the Krewesers, a few locals and we would make a weekend of it. No raffle, just some small give-aways from a few vendors. Do some BBQ for dinner and that's a wheeling trip. One of the first emails I get from our event committee is that Jacque Arnondin and the fine folks from TRDParts4U.com were donating an ARB air locker for an FJ Cruiser. Then, Sean Sykora from Pandora Adventures donated 2 trips to Cancun. Both Jacque and Sean also decided to join us at Mardi Krawl and Jacque even brought Bryan Tatem from TTR with him. And the donations just kept coming......Jason Darling at CruiserYard along with White Knuckle Offroad donated a set of sliders for a 40, the CottonLand Cruisers donated a new Superwinch, plus we had many other sponsors make donations, like Northshore Toyota, Lakeside Toyota, Southeast Overland, Metal Tech, Rock Tactics, Ricochet, Discount Tire, Expedition One, BajaRack, WabFab, All-Pro, Toytec, Just Differentials, and Crane &Template. Also, TTR offered up a free registration to the 2013 Lone Star Toyota Jamboree and the STLCA offered up a free registration to the 2013 GSMTR. So now we were having a raffle. To have a raffle you have to get people there to buy raffle tickets. We were too late to advertise in Toyota Trails so we did the next best thing and started threads in the local clubhouses on IH8MUD.com and on other forums. After 2 months of talking the event up, we had 40 rigs registered. We offered a t-shirt and 2 meals for the driver with each registration. We had several people bring their families and even had the HOT South Cruisers have their monthly meeting at the park on Sat morning. They hung out with us and wheeled with us for the day. All said and done, we had 51 rigs at the event. It was raining when we arrived on Wed, all day Thur and into the early morning Fri hours. We wheeled most of the day Thur while it was raining and we had fun on the Easy and some Moderate trails. Fri, as the park started drying out, the wheeling was completely different. It was as if we had moved to a different park. By Sat, the park had significantly dried up and was really getting fun. We were wheeling harder trails that we had not been able to try before. I even did Ghostrider, which is a trail I had no business being in. Thanks to Sam Hory, his passenger and my Warn m8000, I made it through with a passenger, Daniel Zavalla, who had never been wheeling or camping before. He had the best time of his life (and so did I). Jonas attempted to beat Jester again……Jester 2, Jonas 0. He snapped the U-Joint on the front drive shaft this time.

On Thur night, Kevin Brown along with some of the other LLK members made some home made Jambalaya. On Fri night the 1st Annual Lance Scott Midnight Voodoo Run took place. I am not usually found on the trails for night runs but this was one that I wanted to make. We had fun but Lance missed a turn somewhere and we found ourselves on the wrong trail. That proved to be interesting. Every night we also had a nice camp fire in the center camping area. Everyone hung out and had a few drinks. Socializing with old friends and making new ones is what these wheeling events are all about.

The meals on Fri and Sat nights were provided by Chris Hodge and his crew at C&B Concessions, the concession stand on the park property. They did a tremendous job taking care of us both nights and the food was very good. They also served breakfast and lunch on Thur, Fri and Sat which worked out great for those who didn't want to have to worry about bringing food. We are already talking about next year's event and having him fix some cajun type food like jambalaya or gumbo.

Sat night was the big night for a few reasons: First, we had the raffle. We had a lot of fun with that. Even the kids got in on the action. Second, and probably most importantly, we gave out a couple of awards. Every Mardi Gras parade has a King of the parade and there is also a King of Mardi Gras. Well, the first award was the Queen of Mardi Krawl. It was for the person who took all the by-passes or didn't want to get his rig dirty, or in the winner's case, didn't bring his rig on the trails at all! Jacque from TRDParts4U was the 1st Queen of Mardi Krawl for bringing his 2013TT FJC and leaving it in the camping area all weekend. In his defense, he did ride with others all weekend and got a workout spotting drivers through plenty of trails. He wore his pacifier adorned beads with pride and even hung them in his office when he got back to Dallas. Finally, came the presentation of the most coveted award at Mardi Krawl, the Carnage Award. No one ever really wants the Carnage Award.......until they saw this work of art. Most every driver wanted it but didn't want to have to "earn" it. Jonas had one of his welders make this for us and it truly is a 3' tall, 40lb work of art. Fortunately and unfortunately, it went to Kevin Brown and his 2011 NSSE FJC after he bashed his fender and snorkel into a tree. On the bright side, his step-daughter, Sidney, thought it was the ride of a lifetime and had a blast. His wife, Suzi, was not quite as impressed with his driving skills.

    DSC_0458_zps78f2a5be_f3fcaf9e2c0f1169f16fc2ea8d311b3af8ca4967.jpg

Aside from the inclement weather at the beginning of the week, the 1st Annual Mardi Krawl went off without a hitch. We want to thank all our sponsors, Mark and Chris and all of the employees at Hawk Pride, all those who came to the event and all of those who helped make sure this event moved forward. Special thanks to our event committee, Deryl Boudreau, Jonas Owens and Jason Hodges. They adopted the attitude of "Go Big or Go Home" and made this all happen in a very short period of time. If this is what we were able to plan in only 3 months, I can't wait for the 2nd Annual Mardi Krawl when we have an entire year. For next year, we have a few more Mardi Gras based tricks up our sleeves. We hope to see more of you out on the trails with us for Mardi Krawl ’14.

ha ha ha......I'm getting ready to get started on the write up of the 2nd Annual Mardi Krawl for the Toyota Trails July - Aug edition. I won't be able to post it here until it runs in the magazine but I am hoping you have a winner before then. :headbang:
