Long story but i ended up getting the truck i ordered back in July only from another dealer.
Coming from a 98 Taco and a 99 GMC piece of junk....I am loving life with the Tundra!!!

I looked at ford chevy dodge nissan kept going back to Toyota and had to have one. Ok lets be honest here...the whole time i was looking at other trucks i knew in my mind the whole time i was getting a Tundra!! My Toyotas have always been the most reliable vehicles for me.

    Crappy pics

And you can still get it in your garage... Can't even get my crewmax in mine.

My thoughts exactly. My DC w/ 6.5' box is 7" longer than my garage is deep. Sucks, but I knew it before I bought it.

Congrats and nice looking truck OP!

Or, "I can can actually put a camper in by bed" or " I can put a sheet of plywood in my bed". Kind of a long user name, but you get my drift. 5.5ft bed too short.

I am a self employed woodworker so i haul a lot of 10-12' lumber, plywood as well as deliver my finished goods. I produce cabinet doors, moldings and wood tops.
I also needed to be able to haul my family comfortably as well as be able to load up the truck and go camping. Didnt want to pull a trailer all the time but wanted the abilty to be able to when needed. Not really any mudding or offroading although that stuff looks like killer fun. If they would make a crewmax longbed i would have bought that. I do think the double cab is a tad too small but really it works just fine for us so this was the best choice for us. LOL tacogrande was my username at customtacos.com.
My garage is extra long and it is kind of weird because it has been added on to 4 diffirent times over the years. You can see into the shop with the door open. It goes back over 60 feet i dont even remember exactly how much.

CMax is good for kids to play around in. (a good thing for sure) Toyota would sell a ton of CMax's (every single one) with a 6.5 ft bed. Even 8 footers. For me , IMO, the DC rear has enough room for adults for short distances (I know from experience) and you can actually do something with your bed. 5.5 ft bed is like my problem being left handed. (nothing fits)

    Congrats on the truck OP!

@matluth Ha-ha I'm lefty as well, and I have a CM. I went with that because two car seats in the back of the CM fit no problem. I have to say, coming from a double cab (full four door) short bed Tacoma, the 5.5' bed seems spacious haha.

The CMax cabin is definitely the way to go with small kids in tow. Cabin with the rear seat up is like a playground. Literally.

Ok, we get it. You think the crew max has a short bed. Works just fine for me.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
I've been able to do everything i have needed to do thus far with my 5'-6" bed.
If the 6'-6" bed was common for the crewmax i might have highly considered. Crewmax was priority for me, not the bed.
The 8' bed is massive however can be very useful as a company truck just like @Tacogrande is using it for.

Thanks guys! I have already hauled a bunch of stuff. I did not get the bedliner and the painted bed already has scratches from installing at jobsites and hauling material. LOL Everyone that sees the new truck makes a big deal about oh your bed has scratches already! I look at them like they are crazy and say i use it as a truck and i dont care if the bed has scratches.

I do need some steps to get up into the bed but i have just been carrying around a 2foot step ladder. Do they make steps that fold out to be able to step up into the bed?
The bed on this is 3 1/2" deeper then my old work truck. Awesome!

Only thing i have done is added the Locker Down console safe and windwo vent visors.

Also the wheel to wheel steps with bed access helps as well. I know that on the shorter beds the bed step is almost worthless but with the 8' bed It comes in handy
