I am thinking the only possible difference is if the tailgate shape is different on the 3rd gens. Someone who knows for sure will chime in soon enough. By the way, welcome from CO.

The bed is the same length, so I don't see why not.

I can't speak for the length but the bed on my 16 is exactly the same width as my 07 was.

I remember reading about some differences between 2nd gen and 14+ beds which make it not fit perfectly. But I don't have a 14+, so I didn't pay much attention to the detail.

I am still thinking the tailgate is slightly different.

Both bed width and lengths are the same:
    Width: 66.4
    Length: 66.7

Tailgate shape will affect the fit for the rear topper window/gate if different. (ie: may not close properly) Of course the bed widths and lengths are the same. Tailgates may be the same too. I repeat call these guys on Monday. They have been doing this for 35+ yrs:http://www.suburbantoppers.com/

Apparently, those who have tried this report that it won't fit. The difference in tailgate seems to be the problem.
