    OK,

My Tundra, MSRP $44,500, paid $37,400 and now owe $19,500!

    2017 SR5 CM 4X4, Bilstein 6112 top setting and 5160'd rear, Nitto 295/70/18's with SCS SR8's

    Just testing the waters,

CarMax offered me $36,000 plus tax credit
Dealership offered me $37,000 plus tax credit

    Looking at this,

2018 Platinum, 4X4, sliding sunroof and spray on bed-liner only option.
Dealership MSRP $53,500 and offered me it for $47,867

2018 Platinum 4x4 sliding sunroof, tube steps and fender flares
Dealership MSRP $54,500 and offered me it for $48,900

Don't care about steps or flares, can always get them myself

    Can I afford it, yes
    do I need it, no
was I thinking of this prior to getting the SR5 4X4, Yes!
Is it a good enough upgrade to justify?

Like I say, just testing the water's!

Thanks for any response, and yes I am sane, the wife may not think so but heck, I don't drink any more, don't smoke and I'm old at 56, a little past my midlife crisis, lol

I would say keep what you got, maybe add a few things to it to freshen it up. Upgrade stereo, new rims for a new look, stuff like that. I had an 08 Tundra that I had paid down under 10k and traded after 6 years with 30k miles on it and I would have to say I regretted it for a while. Back in a Tundra a couple years later and plan on making it a one of a kind, for V Beach anyway, and keeping it for the longest. The current 3rd gen body style just looks clean and will look good for a long time I believe. Good luck with your decision making though.

Do it. The numbers aren't bad but will get farther apart quickly. Keep your steps if you like 'em.

No matter what choice you make, it's win win no matter what. I say keep what you got. Pay it off and enjoy that extra money. Add a few mods and spend the rest of the money with the fam :woot:

I would keep the truck and add the $4k in accessories. Maybe budget in a sunroof and some new wheels or whatever it is you like most about the '18. I would think the saved money would get you far. But then again, a new truck is nice as well

My bad. I thought I'd read you had Amps on your current ride. If I didn't offroad and need sliders, I'd get the Amps, they're BA.

I have the N-Fabs and busted my leg slipping on them so I'm going with AMP, they seem easier to step up on for this ole sexy body of mine,

Looks like keeping 17 is leading on the back stretch with 18 Platinum catching up and holding off on next gen hasn't even left the gate!

If I had known more and been at the end of 2015 where I am now, financially, I'd have gotten the Platinum 'cause I deserve it....lol

Your payoff is about the same as mine. I should have it paid off by January. I have put too much time, money and heart into mine to get rid of it. I have 3 car payments and I am keeping this truck for a long, long time. I am tired of so many vehicle payments.
Are you ready for another 5+ years of truck payments when you’re halfway done? I’ll be happy when I get this back to 2 vehicle payments

    Sean,

I was thinking the same thing, I only owe $8,000 on the wife 2015 camry and will have it paid off way early as I always put $1-$200 a month to principal and I figured when that paid off, I can doubt up on the 17 Tundra payments and kill that payoff quicker and have no payments.

I am no pro mechanic nut I did install the Bilstein 6112/5160 setup, TRD pro dual exhaust and kinda make it feel like she's mine and built character on it!

With that said, I sure did miss my 2010 non 4X4 DC Tundra 5.7 when I traded it but now I have a CM 4X4 with way more added then I had on the 2010!

Thanks for that input , great help!

    Geno!

You’re like me...I pay much more than my “amount due” keeps you from ever being upside down should you have the urge to trade it in, or need to sell it. Personally, I would just use the extra money towards mods. Grab the 2018 headlights, pro grill, etc.
I would rather keep my money for the bank, house, etc.
Good luck with whatever you decide. If you do get it, post up pix!

    You know what,

I forgot to mention, I have the TRD Pro grill and hood bulge, 2018 led headlight and fogs, and TDR sway bar/rear ordered from BF sale. But if I was to get an 18 i'de just sell em!

My friend I think you may have pushed keeping the 17 over the finish line unless they gave me an offer this Italian couldn't refuse, I also have the cash to order the AMP PS with harness and a trick fold bed cover, maybe Extang 2.0!

Been holding off on the updating to painted bumper ends from chrome because after the cost of changing them out, I've been thinking I can get a nice bumper mod going!

    any hoot,

Thanks Sean and the rest of my brothers and sister on here!

Don't take offense, as none is intended, but to me the idea of trading a one year old Toyota on another of the same model is borderline ridiculous. Longevity and reliability is their strong point, and you've barely had time to break it in.

hold off for next gen. It's not far away. Enjoy your 2017 ! Create memories with it.

platform hasn't really changed since 2007. Next change will be big. Diesel ? Hybrid ? V6 turbo ? who knows.

No offense taking at all, you have a strong point and thanks for the nudge! The great thing about this forum is the honest opinions and good advice.

My wife feels the same way as you and most are saying, if it was legal she would punch me in the throat for even thinking this, but she has always been supportive and I think for once I will support her advice even though when I think of doing something like this, well she thinks I'm mentally challenged, well she's not far off!

this is a rundown of how I felt and how she was after I told her this plan,

    her at first

me after she said that ^

her after she looked at me
    IMG_0212.jpg
and after the conversation was near completion this is her!

    The end!

Might as well pay it off, save cash, and wait another few years till they do a revamp of the tundra and pay cash for it (but still do the mods of option 1).

I agree keeping the 2017 is the financially better plan, but the only thing which would make me think about doing the trade is all the additional options you get with a platinum. Definitely a hard decision.

    Good luck!!

I say do it. Buy one of the two Platinum trucks (which ever one you like better), either way you it will be a nice upgrade with all the new features. As long as you can afford it might as well enjoy life and do what you want.

I got rid of my 2016 F-150 Platinum to buy the Tundra I have now. Did I need a new truck, was my F-150 worn out or a bad truck?.........hell no. Do I like the Tundra better, can I afford it, does it burn more gas?.......hell yes. Is all about what you want (as long as you get by the boss) and not what somebody thinks.
