Lane Departure Alert - How to add or update

Can you add this option to older (2014+) cars?
I haven't seen a gadget that i don't like. useful or not ... but out of all of them, this is a very useful functionality!

 

I think it would be nearly impossible or at least cost prohibitive to retrofit the OEM system. But you can use aftermarket stuff: https://www.safedrivesystems.com/

 

Never heard of anyone doing this. I can't even begin to speculate what all it would take. Might be cheaper to just buy a new truck.

Lane departure bell is annoying to me. The country roads I frequent make for a chime infested drive, I turn it off.

Well, doesn't that mean you are not staying in your lane? Turning the LDA off is not the solution.

 

No it means when I’m on a country road in the middle of no where and no oncoming traffic to speak of I can use the whole road. It’s Texas so it’s flat and I can see for miles but when the road isn’t straight, I cut the corners, meaning I drive over the stripes.

 

In Missouri you have to stay in your lane unless you legally pass or turn; Texas must have different laws.

 

If you cant keep your vehicle in your lane the car "beeping" at you, or in my wife's 2017 Rav4's case auto correcting you back into your lane isn't the solution either.

Maybe some driver's ed. or maybe if it's a problem that persists removal of the persons drivers license until they can take / show being behind the wheel of a motor vehicle serious enough that they learn proper driving habits.

I'm sooooo glad I bought a 2017 Tundra and don't have that crap on my vehicle.

Maybe when I'm 85, cant see 20/20 anymore this will be something worth looking into. My guess is there isn't too many blind 85 year olds buying Toyota's thou. Just lazy people that think it's more important to send that text off, or read on or talk on their phone while driving in traffic.

 

I would think that all that "crap" does prevent an accident on an occasional basis no matter what the reason is that somebody doesn't stay in his/her lane. And Toyota put the little Off button on the steering wheel for the perfect drivers, for the rest of us it is just a reminder to pay more attention. I leave mine on because I am not one of the perfect drivers.

 

Sir - I understand your point. Safety features are a good thing and save lives. My point is to what end?

 

It’s got its flaws and they are you can not turn up up loud enough. If you where tired on a long drive the first thing you would do is roll down your windows. If the window is down and or the radio is turned up, and you are cruzing at highway speeds I can not see the sound it makes jolting you back into paying attention.

 

I know it is not for everybody but I find it useful. Honestly, if I was still in my 20's or 30's I would probably find it intrusive and annoying I also used to drive more aggressively back then. I have since slowed down some to compensate for my slower reaction time and all the "nannies" make me a safer driver. Yes, none of these systems are perfect and you shouldn't rely on them, they are just driving aids.

 

Well if I'm ever in Misery and need to brush up on "how to drive" there when NO BODY ELSE IS ON THE ROAD then I will defer to your driving knowledge. Until then I will do as I please ON COUNTRY ROADS WHERE THERE ARE NO OTHER CARS VISABLE.
