Picked up my 2016 DC Limited last Monday, 10/12/15
Two months ago, I stopped in one of the Toyota dealers down in the Denver area and started talking to one of the salesman about a silver 2016 Limited. I had a dark blue 2007 Limited I was going to sell. A week or so later, I was in another dealer and he made the mistake of saying they couldn't compete with Mountain States Toyota north of Denver. But while I was there, I looked at a white Pro sitting out front. Right then, I changed my mind on what color I wanted. I found out that Mt. States Toyota is the second largest Toyota Truck dealer in the country. So I stopped in there the following week and was fortunate to talk to a salesman that had been there for a very long time. I told him what I wanted and he found the next available truck they were getting was going to be built Sept. 21. He changed the color and added the TRD and Limited upgrade package. I asked him what would it cost. He said how about 1K below dealer cost. I said write it up and show me on paper and you have a deal. He did and I gave him a deposit and went home and started reading all of your build posts to decide on what I wanted to do. I pulled up a couple of white trucks I liked that really cemented my decision to get the white. So for the past two months, I've been ordering parts, painting parts and getting things ready to install. And this past week, that's what I've been doing.

    Mods completed this past week:
Changed out grille with the Pro grille and white hood bulge. Swapped out the stock running boards with Iron Cross. 3" lift and put in some air bags in the back at the same time. Carbon fiber door handles, emblems, door pillars and wrapped the wood interior pieces with carbon fiber. Also wrapped the kick plates with Carbon fiber. Smoked head and taillights. Navigation lockout mod. 40" LEDs behind grille with quick on/off switch. Center console box mod. Handgun holster mounted. Entune start up and shut down images changed. Bushwacker pocket flares that I painted white to match the truck. Changed out as many of the lights with LEDs. I think there were 10 of them.
Didn't get the white wrap in yet but will wrap the mirrors and bumper ends as soon as it comes in. Waiting on a new 3M product they want me to use. Have the headache rack temporarily installed waiting on a custom design I'm having plasma cut. Ordered it a month ago, still waiting.

I used plashlights. I've used them in the past and have had no issues with them.

How did you buy a truck $1K below dealer cost? Especially on a truck your ordering. Where is their profit margin? Seems that dealership wouldn't be in business if it did that kind of sale.

The actual dealers cost is not the invoice price. Though what the dealers actually pay is somewhat a highly guarded secret, there are a lot of factors that dictate how much a dealer actuallyy makes on each car. There are kickbacks based on how many cars the dealer sells over a certain time and other incentives.
I was really surprised at the price he quoted me too, but wasn't about to argue. I also paid cash so that may have had something to do with it also.

I thought I did good with getting almost 7K off the MSRP. Looks like I could've held out a little longer. :argue:

I built this headache rack for my old truck a few years ago. Fortunately it fit the new truck but was in need of a facelift. I took the old expanded metal off and came up with this design. Had a local shop cut it out with a plasma cutter then I primed and painted it. Got it installed this morning. Kind of hard to see but it is two dimensional with two layers. I kept the center section fairly low so it didn't block the rear view mirror.

Can I ask what did you use for the carbon fiber wrap. Are the door handles fiber wraped or whole new handles. I really like the fender flares. I have been holding off on them because I wasnt sure how they would look with stock width tires.

The wrap is a 3M product called 1080 3D. It uses real carbon fiber which I think is important. I used it on the door pillars too and covered up the fake wood inside.

I got the same story about Mountain States from a Toyota Dealer west of the city. I ended up flying to Des Moines to buy my Pro.

I took the decision on where to mount a handgun pretty serious. I read every post and looked at all the pictures. For me, I hated the idea of having to open something up to get to it but also wanted it fairly concealed from outside the truck. If you need to grab it in a hurry, say when a carjacker sticks a gun in your face if you have your window down, you sure don't want to telegraph your actions. Under the steering colum would have been nice until I realized I'd have it delivered into my face in the event that airbag deployed. So I came up with this. I used a holster that has a metal belt clip on the back. The 1 1/2" wide, 10" long metal bar is long enough that you can tuck the gun towards the back hiding it from sight from outside the truck. If you slide the seat forward, it slides forward too. Switch guns, easy, just swap out the holster. And if you need it. It's within inches of your right hand.

That is a very good idea. Love that the holster can go anywhere on the bar and tuck away if needed and be easily removed.

Phone holders have been a nightmare for me for years. I've tried almost every type available. The suction type just don't stay put while going through rough country. Same with the type that block your vents. I found this magnetic mount that has been excellent and the location for me is perfect. It comes with a flat metal plate that you put on the back of your phone. I've had it mounted in my other tundra for years and had it in some of the roughest country getting banged around and the phone has never fallen off. The weak link for this mount, like all the suction cup type mounts is the suction cup. The easy fix is a screw through the back of the cup from behind the removable panel it is attached to.

Mounted the rear backup lights. Very easy because the bolt is already there however it isn't the best location. But like everyone that decided to add some backup lights, there isn't many options. I've had lights mounted on other trucks in the same location and torn them off in deep snow and while going through a deep gully. I looked for other locations (other then cutting into the bumper) and there isn't any. The flush mount in the bumper is the best option to prevent the inevitable. But these lights are only $20 so when I do tear them off, it's not a big deal. Great write up from csuviper and sean266 on this quick mod, thanks again guys.

Pulled the front bumper off today and removed the end caps. Removed the mirror caps and hood bulge. Got everything prepped and a coat of epoxy primer on. Tomorrow I'll paint them white and that will be the end of the chrome.

I used all Delstar paint and primer. You have to use epoxie primer on any chrome pieces.

It is not difficult, just time consuming. It would have been easier with some help but I did it by myself so I had to block it up when removing and reinstalling. It is heavy.

They came with the truck. Sand, then prime with epoxy primer. Then paint white like any other part. Less then $80 in paint and a few hours of work.
