What was strange is that the system booted up as soon as I plugged it in without the key in the ignition. I hope I don't have a faulty unit.

Damn bro that’s crazy I hope it’s not messed up mine worked as the stock unit would only thing stumped me was the heat but that was solved

 

Well I unplugged it and my key fob worked again and the doors locked/unlocked as normal. Plugged it back in and it booted right up without the key in the ignition and key fob didn't work again and doors wouldn't lock once again. I think I may have a faulty unit. Everything is plugged in tight. Unplugging the OBD dongle didn't affect its behavior. Damnit!

 

Got my unit in and had some issues. After doing some reading on here I figured everything out. I gotta say the unit is awesome. The only thing that’s bugging me is the lights in the buttons are way to bright, especially the knobs. They are also basically useless since you can do everything from the screen. Does anyone know how to just shut them off completely? If anyone does please let me know thanks.

I know this may sound dumb but have you got out of the truck shut the door and tried locking it twice? I thought I had the same problem but it wouldn’t lock with me in the truck

 

I also can’t see it being a faulty unit. When you double lock the truck it cuts all power to the factory unit so the new one shouldn’t be getting any power.

 

They don' connect anywhere. 1 is the xm antenna, no idea on the other one

 

Did you plug in the orange box too? I didn't at first, but when I did everything worked

It's a pain in the butt! Have to remove the face plate, cause it comes out from the front, then have to press hard on the 2 squares, 1 at a time. I cut my hand pretty good, don't use a screwdriver, don't want to scratch it, light has to go through it

 

After some major troubleshooting, I finally fixed it. I unplugged each connection one by one with the ignition off. Finally got to the aux connection and what do you know? The unit shut off and my key fob worked again and the doors lock normally. Must've not seated in all the way. Didn't know the aux connection could cause so much mayhem. It shuts off now when I turn off the ignition and boots up normally when I start the truck. Got Nova Launcher installed, all my widgets and my live wallpapers going. Phew!

 

The issue is that there is so much this unit does and non of us are taking the time to slowly go through it because of the excitement. The seller should at least send instructions as a how to for the interface

 

Mine came with a basic user's manual built in but doesn't show how to install . Found it under the files tab

 

If the Google playstore in the HU doesn't have Netflix or other apps you can't install from the Google Play Store, you can also use alternative Android app stores. I use Aptoide. It's just like Google Playstore and scans for malware/viruses. I found Netflix for the HU in there.

 

Good to go! Even got Google Assistant for voice commands. Unfortunately, Netflix isn't optimised so can't rwd, ff or skip around.

 

Does this thing have an auto dim option?

 

If you don't like the red HVAC color you can change by going into settings use code scroll to UI theme it should say red pick the next theme over reboot and should be blue .I tried some of the other themes but only seems to change to blue

 

Does the google assistant work with the steering wheel function?

 

I haven't found an option but I'll play around with it some more and see what I can find.

 

Not that I know of but I will try to see if the buttons can be reassinged.

I can't get it to work with Torque app. Doesn't look like it's made for that unit. None of the buttons work. I had to tap around the screen to find settings. The dongle didn't work with the app. Only certain BT dongles. I also tried Dash Command which pretty much does the same thing as Torque but it only works with certain OBD dongles as well. The OBD dongle that comes with the unit seems useless if it only works with the limited stock gauges. I'm going to try my ELM OBD II BT dongle.

 

Yeah it definitely has A LOT more sound output than stock and the customization is pretty nice.

 

I went into settings>advanced and entered the code. I don't see anything for UI theme.

Edit: I found it in system info.

After playing around with this thing and almost ripping it out and returning it, I finally figured out the sound. It sounded terrible at almost any volume, and yes amp was powered on. I have a iPhone X so I figured maybe that was the issue. Turns out my eq on my phone was off so I switched it to rock and played around with the eq on the unit and WOW it pounds for all stock speakers. I also pulled the unit apart and put electrical tape over all the leds for now till the blue tape comes in. I honestly couldn’t even drive at nigh because the leds in the knobs were blinding.

 

Did you ever get the rings installed? If so would like to see a picture or 2 and what/where did you order?

Anyone have an update on the HVAC issues for Limited and above? Lastly, any suggestions for a tighter fit? Mine keeps coming loose at the top right corner.
