I bought my truck in October, was really looking at the 2018 mesquite brown limited with TRD. Had another dealer out of state down to about $44,300 out the door. Then I stopped at a local dealer because they had a cement gray sitting out front which I liked. Wife said lets go see if they will let us look at it. While we walked to the front door, we saw this XSP packaged SR5. We thought, wow this looks cool, wife said "you don't have to do anything to it!" Sticker was $49k, same as a 18' Limited. I had to sit down and think about why I really wanted a truck.... Overlanding rig... Long story short, I ended up getting the 2017 SR5 XSP. Got the super deal, they were willing to deal since it was a 17' I got it cheaper than the 18' Limited the other dealer was offering. I don't need all the safety stuff that the 18's come with (more stuff to break IMO). Dash is cool, but I can deal. I can retro the headlights.

Congrats on your new truck! Pics???

So the dealer called me. He said costco has them selling at invoice.. I asked what that invoice is he said 47,161.. problem is that's not the invoice i have found online.. two other sources have the following prices of invoice autobytel.com has it at 44,846 and true car has it at 45,835.. don't know which is correct... this is on an 18 cement Crew max limited with limited premium package and trd off road package.. msrp with 1295 destination 48445..
    Thoughts?

    Spit-

That dealer is pulling ur chain.

Ask for copy of invoice. I don’t care what a website says. I want invoice.
Also the Costco deals vary but usually $1000-1200 off trd Offroad. Not sure of limited version but I’d GUESS that or more.

Also don’t always believe pricing “people say they paid” that you read on internet as a proper BS Meter app has not been made yet. Lol

Just as a reference. I just bought a 2018 Limited Crew Max TRD 4X4 with the premium package. MSRP was $49,400.00. I ended up getting it for $43,900 before TTL.

I may sound ignorant but what is a XSP package? When I did all my research prior to buying my Tundra I never seen the XSP option on the Toyota site where you can "build" your truck.

TSS (not to be confused with the safety system from Toyota usa) and XSP are either SET or GST region specific upcharge packages for SR5 models. all they mostly do is replace the rims and add some bling to the outside/inside for a generous upcharge.

I thought they were the same / unchanged. How did you know the IBC was upgraded in 2018?

Without a doubt get the '17. The only thing nicer about the '18 is the lights and grill and you can replace those and still have $3k left over which would pay for a leveling kit, wheels and tires.

Also (and maybe it's just me) but I'm glad mine doesn't have those new idiot (I'm mean safety ) "features" like the automatic braking and lane departure BS. I'm sure a lot of people think those are great additions but I'm not one of those people and would not by an '18 (even for the same price) because of them. Just my $.02

The new instrument cluster is much better too.

Why would you consider safety features as "idiot" features or BS? Do you feel the same way about the idiot seat belts or BS airbags in your current truck? Just wondering.

Different? Yes. Better? In your opinion maybe but it's not that big of a difference. Definitely not a $4k difference.

Nice try but that's not an apples to apples comparison skippy.

It is your job as the driver to control your vehicle to keep it in your lane or stop if there is something in front of you. I've managed to drive for over 30 years now without auto-braking or lane departure alerts and haven't hit anything yet. Those features are there to compensate for poor driver attention, probably because they are too busy texting or playing with other "technology" while driving.

Seat belts and airbags are there in case of an accident and serve a purpose that a driver or passenger can not compensate for if those items where not there.

Basically I think the auto braking feature can give certain people a false sense of security like it's OK to not pay attention because auto-braking will take care of it and if you need an alert to tell you that you have drifted out of your lane then you have no business driving in the first place. Harsh? Maybe but I'm sick of whiny ass snow flake millennials who expect technology to compensate for their own shortcomings.

Also, auto-braking can screw up sometimes. I was talking one of the sales guys at a toyota dealership and he told me how sometimes the auto-braking on his camry (IIRC) would sometimes activate going through construction zones when the cones are very close to the lane? Maybe BS, IDK but I don't care either. I don't want stupid "features" that I have no need or use for.

Some people complain about how the Tundra is behind the Ford and other trucks in the technology department. I'm just the opposite, that's one of the things I liked about the Tundra.

    airgunner,

Added and/or more advanced safety features are evolving as technology improves and it doesn't matter whether they are active or passive features, they are here to stay. I welcome anything that makes driving safer or compensates for when I get distracted for a moment. And no, I don't text or email while I am driving. I can't say that I rely on those systems but they give me peace of mind and hopefully mitigate any mistakes that most of us make from time to time.

Can you honestly say that you never had one of those "Oh shit moments" while driving but just got lucky? All the BS and idiot features are for those times. You might be that perfect driver, I sure am not because I have been driving for 42 years and did have two at-fault accident. First one maybe 30 years ago when I rear-ended a car that had stopped at a light, second one when I was backing up I did look back but didn't see the Honda Civic right behind me (I was in a truck, the Honda is really low). Chances are that both would have been prevented with either the collision avoidance or the rear park sensor and back up camera.

With that said we can agree to disagree; I just realize that I have limitations.

I thought the same thing when I looked at it. It's only available in the Southeast. Southeastern Toyota Distributor, who apparently is the port for all Toyota's coming to the Southeast does a few packages. Everything is covered by the factory warranty since they do the work. Like I lost a center cap going offroad. I was able to go to the dealer locally and get a new center cap. They do add quite a bit to the price, but if you're persistent they will pretty much take the hit on the package.

I was faced with the same dilemma, a 2017 and a 2018 with similar options/packages but the 18 was 5K more (only 1K diff in sticker but better discounts/incentives on the 17). The only thing I really like more on the 18 was the new grill. I may have gone for the 18 for some of the new features and the grill but my wife has a 2017 Pilot with adaptive cruise and lane sensing and I determined it isn't something I really care about. I ended up with the 17 and will change out the headlights and the grill.

Yup, we can agree to disagree. If it makes your feel better to have those feature then great, you got them. I didn't want any of that stuff and my Tundra doesn't have it so in the end, we both got what we wanted.

yep, and then they offer some big rebate that knocks them down. I bought mine for the BFGs. Without the extra $2k rebate I would have said no thanks. Rebate brought it down to TRD OR range or a little better. I would rather adds skids than tires and I was planning on +2 coilovers on the front anyway.

100% agreement. We would not have or need all of the safety features if not for distracted drivers. I have 46 years and never rear ended or side swiped any object. Never hit a pedestrian either. Although most of my commute is hwy and always has been. I have been rear ended many times but never serious. Most did not even damage my vehicle like the Jaq that went under my bumper. I am glad for the safety factors on other people vehicles but personally do not need them.

so in other words, they raise the price by $2k and then discount it back down $2k. so you are really paying MSRP for a truck that if you didn't have this package would be $2k less than MSRP?
