Think I have it narrowed down to three. Need advice.

First, thanks to all for the advice in my previous thread. I think I've settled on 275/65's being the best for my situation (allows me to stay out of an E rated tire, and will have the least negative effect on my mileage).

I have it narrowed down to:

    Cooper AT3s
    Falken Wildpeak A/T3Ws
    Toyo AT2s

I can't really find great photos of the Cooper's mounted on Tundras (here or on Google). I've seen them in person mounted on a few different vehicles and they look decent. They have the least aggressive looking sidewall of the three, but they get great reviews, they're available in a load range C, and they're priced much better than the Toyo's (but in line with the Falken's). Also, weighing in at 44lbs is a plus.

The Falken's are a wildcard. People love them, but I can't find long term reviews to show how they do after 20, 30, 40K miles. They're the only of the three that is severe weather rated (snowflake), and their price is hard to beat. They're heavy even for a C rated tire.

Toyo AT2s looks and perform great according to all of the reviews. Some people complain about their wet performance which makes me nervous. They're pricey, and their 275/65's aren't much lighter than the 275/70s, which makes me think it would be worth going for the latter in this tire just to gain some height without sacrificing much weight.

Would love to hear thoughts and opinions on these three.

For informational purposes, I drive 40 miles round trip all highway each day. I do drive fire roads and fields during hunting season. I will also drive on my parent's property for firewood all winter which has me in unplowed snow at times. Zero trail driving or true offroading. The wife and I are considering purchasing a travel trailer in the next two years as well. Only other towing is smaller utility trailers occasionally.

I think you're probably overthinking it and will be pissed with whatever you choose.

I have heard the same thing about the toyo AT2 but still had a set put on the boys truck. He really likes them and I have been waiting for it to rain here so I can take his truck for a drive. Were talking AZ here so not much rain I think people are thinking of the original toyo AT but I don't know.

I've got Cooper's on my Tundra and love them. No issues.

When I get money and time, Falken's will be going on the 4runner.

Any reason you're planning to try the Falken's rather than Cooper's for the 4runner?

I can get them installed for just over 500 bucks at my local Co-op. I've got a new set of TRD wheels in my garage. Tundra came with the Coopers.

My buddy has the Toyo's on his truck. We live in CNY and get plenty of snow. He said they worked great last winter. I run snow tires in the winter so I cannot be of any help there. If you're planning on towing a real big/heavy travel trailer, you should go up in load rating. I tow one that is only 4500 lbs/ 550 lb tongue weight with regular 114 load index tires and they are perfectly fine. However, if you put a crap load of weight back there or are towing a really long trailer, you may want to consider going up in load rating.

I just installed Cooper ATP's. They share the same Carcass as the AT3'3, just have a slightly diff tread pattern. They are exclusive to Discount Tire from Cooper. They ride great and fit nicely on stock truck suspension. 275-60-r20 is what I am running.

I have Toyo Open Country MT's on mine and love them super quiet for a MT and ride awesome also wear very well would think the AT's would be very similar.

I have the Cooper's on my 4runner and my last truck and they have been very good tires. The only negative about them is as you mentioned, the sidewall is pretty plain so they don't have an aggressive look to them but other then that, they are a great choice, especially for the uses you mention

I think that although they’re going to run about $200 more, I’m leaning toward the AT2s. I just really like their sidewall and the sidewall makes a tire, imho. I feel like I’m getting my moneys worth if it looks less like a street tire if that makes any sense. The Falken’s look good as well, but they’re much heavier and a few have mentioned the siping doesn’t run the whole way through the block.

Had Cooper AT3s on my old ford and hated them. Rode fine, worked ok. But only lasted 28K. Junk in my opinion. Haven't been disappointed with General Grabber AT2s - on my 3rd or 4th sets.

I weighed though all the options recently and chose Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I wanted to go E. Amazing so far. Just a bit heavy.

Yeah, it's been fun :) I'm leaning toward the Falken Wildpeaks and the Toyo AT2s right now. Need to make a decision on wheels as well. Was hoping the Ray10s were available now, so I'm still weighing options.

I have some time until winter is in full force here which is when I would like to have everything ready to go.

I had the Toyo AT2 on my Tacoma. They were really loud and an only OK ride quality.

I pulled the gumball p-rated Michelin’s off my Tundra with a few hundred miles and put on Nitto G2 grapplers. They are good in all conditions but, are also just too damn loud for my taste. They also hold gravel and rock in the tread. With 10k on them, I’m ready to go to a Michelin Defender LTX MS.

I did go up to the E load which made a big difference in how the truck handles. I don’t think a P/SL Tire has any business on a truck this heavy.

I have the Toyo Open Country AT2 on my 4runner and I won't buy them again. Many others have very good reports on that tire but my experience is different. They are flat out dangerous in the rain. They hydroplane at 50-55 mph if there is any standing water, but the worst is concrete. They have no bite on a concrete surface such as entrance and exit ramps onto interstates. If I am going faster than 30 and I hit a hairpin concrete ramp and it's wet, the 4runner will slide sideways. It just scoots off the road because all 4 corners lose traction. I have thought about removing them, but after paying 950.00 for 285/60/18s it's hard to remove them. I feel used tires are not a good investment once you buy them and pay to mount them so trying to sell them isn't an option for me. I have stopped rotating them so they wear out faster and I can just move onto something else. They currently have about 25k miles on them.

I was looking at the Falken for my Tundra, but the weight of those have me turning away. I am leaning toward the Cooper or the Ridge Grappler. I do want an AT tire which puts me in the E rated, but like you, I mostly drive the highway with an occasional trip through the yard or some dinky dirt/gravel road. I don't do any serious offroading to justify the AT tire, but I like the way they look.

Good to know. I know that a good highway tire would be better for 90% of my driving, but around the farm, my Dueler HTs suck even in grass. Plus, frankly, HT tires look awful on trucks.

Well, I figured I would update this since I've finally pulled the trigger today. Just took advantage of the $75 MIR on the Cooper AT3s (should have done this last month when it was $100) in 275/70/18. Also pre-ordered RAY10's. Hurt the wallet because how cheap I can be, but will happy once it's all installed.

I liked my AT3’s on my old Sierra. Had my 2nd set on (285/70r17) when the heads blew up. Sadder about losing the tires than the truck actually. Lol.

The reviews were stellar across the board, and they're a little on the lighter side for their size. I think it's a good compromise between a true highway tire and an aggressive AT. I think it will serve me well.

I have the Toyo At2 Xtremes in 285/65R18, E rated, on my tundra with bilstein 5100s and 18×9 +18 offset wheels with no rubbing, no trimming needed. Ive had them in the rain twice, one pretty heavy rain, and they did fine. Keep in mind they are at about 80% tread depth, so i assume the people complaining about rain performance probably have more wear on their tires. Or maybe its just because the 285/65R18 is the Xtreme with a bit bigger gaps between lugs? As a disclaimer i have only had my truck for two weeks but also had some LT rated A/T2s on my first truck, an '03 Tacoma, and they were great.

If these tires are actually this dangerous (and I believe every word you typed), you would risk your family safety and financial future over 950.00? Most tire stores give a credit for used tires or sell them on CL.

My Tacoma has Hancook DynaPro ATMs on them and they are bad ass in snow, rain, or anything I have put it through. There is a down side....they are loud, and Tacoma’s are already loud with street tires. The next set will be Michelin LTX.

I personally don’t care what a sidewall looks like, but to each their own. The only time sidewall come into play for me is rock crawling. I care how a tire tread performs in what conditions I’m in.

I had good luck with the toyos, never had an issue in the rain or snow, mud they were ok...but I was in some pretty slick and rutted area. Glad I had them instead of the stock bridgestones. They wear pretty good for an A T tire
