    Hey Folks,

I've been a loyal taco owner and active in the TW forum, but recently started to consider the tundra. I have a 2018 Cement OR taco ordered and it will be here next week, so I have to bring myself up to speed on the Tundra fairly quickly if I want to make an informed decision.

I've bought a new Tacoma or 4Runner every 2-5 years religiously since 2007 and I think I want something bigger with more power this time around. I bought a boat last year and my taco struggles badly. Not to mention, it only gets 10-11MPG while towing a small 3000 lb boat. My daughter is 6 now and she needs more space on drives so I have that to consider as well.

My first concern is resale. I've never had trouble selling my taco when it came time to upgrade. Looks like the Tundras hold their own, but not as well as the tacos. I'd like to hear Tundra owner experiences.

Second, I don't know the best "combo" when building a new Tundra. Right now I'm thinking a 2018 limited cement is the most bang for the buck. I tend to like the creature comforts.

Third, is pricing. Taco's were pretty easy to know when you were getting a good deal since there was never a whole lot of room for negotiating. I generally get them near invoice or about 7-9% off MSRP. The tundras, however, seem to have a LOT more wiggle room. Is there "master pricing" thread with build codes etc? I did a quick search and couldn't find one.

First post, by the way....hello all!

    Welcome from CO!
Many of us all care from Tacomas (myself included) I have yet to look back. The power, size, comfort, wet panties, etc will not want you to go back to a Tacoma

I came from driving Tacoma's, since 1996, when I bought my first new truck, I've had a bunch of Tacoma's. Got my first Tundra last year, a 2014, wrecked it 6 months later, traded it in for my 2017 tundra. Jumping from taco to tundra, best vehicle decision I've ever made. Do it, and you'll be glad you did.

Former Tacoma owner here. I had a 2017 for less than a year. Too small and underpowered for me after a while. Upgraded to a 2017 Tundra and love it.

    I beg to differ sir.

To OP, former '98 Tacoma owner here. The Tundra is the way to go. Power, leg room, bigger bed to carry all the dropped panties. It's just better.

Welcome! You can’t go wrong by upgrading to the Tundra. I made the upgrade from a Taco almost 18 months ago and my only regret is not doing it sooner. Taco resale is incredible, but the Tundra isn’t far behind. It’s amazing how closely priced they are considering how much more truck you get with the Tundra. As far as wiggle room on pricing, if you can get $4K off MSRP you’re doing well. You hear stories of folks claiming to get some amazing deal, but when you peel back the onion it’s usually not as amazing as they claim. My father in law is in the car business (one of his dealerships is a Toyota) so I know how much room Toyota dealers really have. Anyway, welcome and good luck with the decision!

    ....Mmmmm super white!

Just about everything passes my 3rd gen. Even with ECT "ON". Not a big deal though, I'm old now. I don't drive like I did before I had real responsibilities. I'd just like to be able to pull my little boat without white knuckles.

    Welcome to the site!

The Tundra is the 5th best resale value vehicle in North America. This was a part of my decision when deciding between a Tundra and a Tacoma, but also after test driving both the Tacoma was a bit of a slug. The new Tacomas have a lot of nice interior features but the Tundra has a better foundation. I figure I can (and have!) add all the little things I want.

Hope to welcome you to the club. Hazing week is usually pretty light around the holidays so it's a good time to join!

I can't compare the newer Tacomas to a Tundra although I did have a 96 (or 95) Tacoma years ago, it was nice but to small. What I can tell you is that the Tundra is just a great truck. I came from a 2016 F-150 Platinum to the Tundra world about 2 weeks ago after doing tons of research, test driving and waiting to find the right truck. It wasn't an impulse decision, it was a long thought out process.

The F-150 had a few more advanced features (some nice, some useless to me) and got about 3 MPGs better but I like the Tundra better. I like the heavier and more solid feel and the more traditional styling. Get a Tundra and make sure you get exactly the color, trim level and options you want.

Might be 1st in resale if they didn't have so much chrome and got another 3MPG. :)

....Seriously though. Thanks everyone welcoming me!! I'm going to go drive a few tundras this weekend and I'll probably be back with several questions.

Man I've only been here a couple of weeks, but this is a great bunch. I just left Tacoma world too.....I was just never happy with my 16 TRD OR, and traded for a tundra 2 weeks ago. You'll find that a lot of these guys are former taco owners. Personally, I'd say go for it . I'm extremely pleased with mine!

    **UPDATE**

Drove several Tundras today and I'm really leaning towards the Tundra now. My wife was with me and loved it. Now I have to figure out how to build one that I can afford. I think the sweet spot is a limited with LX package only. I get better suspension (which was noticable),leather, jbl, blind spot monitor and heated seats for about 46K (MSRP), so I hope I can pull the trigger somewhere near 42K. That's still about 3.5K higher than I was looking at on the Tacoma....but I think I'm getting a LOT more. We also drove a few F150's but I had to move to the lariat packages to get the options I wanted which kind of put me out of the market on price. I also looked at the resale prices of the F150's and realized I was going to lose my a$$ in depreciation. While I liked the fords, they are off the list. Makes me feel even better about buying a tundra.

The Ford F-150's are nice trucks and they get about 3mpg better under like driving conditions, my last two trucks were F-150. I now have 2018 Tundra Limited with Premium package and a few other options and I really like the Tundra. If you can find a package without getting the JBL stereo go that route, it is not worth it. Get the mid level stereo with the embedded navigation and spend your money on speakers and an amp.
