Hi guys just picked up a 14’ tundra CrewMax trd. It does have a level kit on it. I noticed when making a left u-turn with the wheel fully locked it makes a pretty bad grinding noise. Any ideas would be extremely appreciated

Like rubber on plastic? Rubber on the cab? Or metal on metal? What size tires?

Sounds like metal on metal, Only with steering wheel fully locked. Reading online some people said they greased the steering stops and that fixed it

Do you have bigger tires? Most rubbing doesn’t sound like metal on metal, but I would check that first just to be sure. See if there are any rub marks on the front plastics, the cab mount, and your skid plate. Or get someone to drive it while you stand outside and try to see where the sound is coming from.

Thanks for the suggestion, it’s got meaty 275/70-18s on it. I checked to see if any of the surrounding plastics had marks but nothing. Checked the dust shields on brakes as well. Going to try some grease. Maybe have the alignment checked to see if anything is off

Might as well try greasing the steering stops. I remember reading about that on another forum.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I’m going to check out greasing those stops, like I said it’s only when steering is completely locked too, anything less than that and no rubbing. Any of you guys with a front lift/leveling kit notice Any changes in sound? When I roll down my driver window when going over 40mph the wind flowing through the vehicle sounds a little different, almost like something was stuck or flapping around under the wheel well

It’s weird, I know I’m probably hypersensitive to every little noise since I just bought the vehicle. Runs great, just have a feeling the leveling kit up front altered the suspension geometry in a way I’m not used to

Friend of mine owns a shop and pretty much all of them have tundras I think I’ll stop by next week and have him look over the suspension and see what he can dig up. This site is awesome by the way, didn’t expect so many helpful replies so quickly

Mine does the exact same thing. Figured out it's the skid plate. I haven't had a chance to trim it but will do so pretty soon.
Might try greasing the steering stops too.

A little of this and a little of that.
@Nickj619 , I had the same problem with a grinding noise after a lift I put on it. Turns out it was the skid plate being rubbed. Sounded just like metal grinding though.....

I just heard the noise when turning hard left with my 6112s installed. I have the same wheels and tires both stock.
Anyone figure out for sure what the noise is? Thanks.
