35’s Equal 4MPH More

so today while driving, I set the truck at 60.

Granted am in 35’s.

I peeped at waze since there was a glancing red flask on iPhone. I was actually doing 64mph!!! WHUTT!!!!

So all them times when I was driving, it never donned that the spedo is off.

So if the truck gained 6K miles after putting on 35’s, what’s the true mileage ????

 

Bigger tires, more distance per rotation. You can get a speedo calibrator to fix your readings

 

About 6%. 1000 miles really 1060. 6000 miles 6360. Trade in value less miles...priceless

 

Heyyyyyyy. I want my 360 miles back. Lol. Over time this all adds up for sue

So is there a homemade fix, or do I find Who/WhatWhere now and spend hundreds?

What you/them other 35’ers been doing for fixes?

It changes your MPG too! You're actually getting better than you think by a little. I believe the fix costs several hundred dollars, so I just adjust the numbers in my head. I teach math, so I enjoy it anyways haha

You just have to average how many miles you get to a full tank and find the % that’s its off. Then go back from when you got the tires.. if you fill up 1x a week then go back in many weeks you’ve had the tires. That will give you the extra miles you’re off

 

I have 37’s on my truck and off by 6-7mph. I’m getting 40-50 miles more each fill up than my odometer is saying. My truck has about 11k miles on it so that about 700-750 miles more my truck really has on it.. so it’s reslly about 11,700 miles

 

Yours is 12% from running 33s. At 50 u r 56.
At 100 u r 112. Slow down. Recalibrate. Add 12% to mileage after 37s for actual. And slow down some more.

 

I thought my stock tires were 32 inch not 33 did the math on 32 inch stock and came up with 13.8 or 14%

 

Hypertech Speedo recalibrator. I had Toyota do my install and leave the plug attached to it incase it ever needed to be adjusted. Cost like $200-300 for part and install. Not all 35's are 35's so if you want it accurate it might take a couple times of entering numbers. Your mph will be off a percentage not a set number. I then added the Bully dog about a year and a half later for the program and can see what the computer is saying the truck is doing and i can see what the corrected mph is on the speedo.

 

When the hell is bully dog going to add the speedo cal in? I thought Chevy doge n Ford have the system to be able to change tire size on the bully tuners

 

You can make changes on the bully dog for tire size but since my speedo was already recalibrated i just left it alone. It originally took me so long to get the install done i didn’t have time to play with it. Also not 100% sure if that would fix the speedo or just the mph readout on the bully dog.

I stand corrected. Its in the driving coach that you can "make sure the displayed speed is correct". but thats still only on the bully dog. I wish these tuners where like the diesel ones. I had a Edge Platinum with Juice on my F250. I could go from economy to level 6 "hot unlock" at a stop sign....then waste $7.00 in diesel beating whatever little import rolled up next to me and then while coasting go back to economy mode. I guess the price difference is nice though. $900+ for that tuner(about 8 years ago)

I also don’t watch mileage as long as I don’t have to drop the engine / tranny, everything else I will DIY.

So that day when I was doing 80, I guess I was actually doing 85 - now I c y everything faded.

 

I think you misunderstand, the mileage difference is in your favor. You have actually traveled 360 miles more than is on your speedometer shows in this example. For every 6,360 miles you actually travel, your odometer only shows that you have traveled 6,000.

And I was actually thinking of installing some 16’ in the front to play catch up on the miles.

I have 37's, so I am a little further off than you, but I normally try to keep the speedo a little under the speed limit, that way I'm only going about 67mph, when my speedo says 58.

 

Another thing that I have done in the past is, if you have an old Garmin GPS or something similar just lying around not being used, plug it in and use it for just the speedo, since it uses GPS to calculate speed it should always be correct unless you're in a tunnel. You can use the trip function on it to measure your actual miles traveled, if you want to accurately calculate your MPG's. I did this in my old Colorado, the GPS I had would auto turn on whenever the outlet got power, when the truck was turned on and it would turn off when the outlet lost power, when I turned the truck off.
