Is there a way to keep the tow haul on at all times without having to push the bottom every time. Can the wiring behind the switch be bypassed to keep it engaged at all times and will it hurt anything if done? I like the throttle response and how the truck drives with the toll haul on but hate pushing that button every time.

I bet there is a way to do this. So many people get finger strains from depressing the Tow/Haul button several times per day.

I would think you could close the circuit behind the switch rewiering it to stay on, but no sure.

Next time you start your truck, try starting it with the button pressed. That'll probably tell you if it will work.

Just wondering, how much difference did that make in your fuel mileage by always having the truck in Tow/Haul mode?

I turned my T/H on for the first time. It sure makes a big difference, throttle response is almost to sensitive. I wish there was a in between setting like 50% of T/H.
I can see how you hot-rodders like that but I don't see how so much more get up and go doesn't have a penalty at the gas station.

Try it, you'll be surprised. Like I said, I think it is overly aggressive. I turned it off because I really don't drive my truck hard (that's what the Chevelle is for).

I have been experimenting with it. Nothing scientific but I seem to get better mileage. To and from work same route daily. Drove 2 days with it off and last 2 on. MPGs went up by 4 to 5 tenths. Saw similar results driving back from deer hunting 2 weeks ago. Similar weather and even drove faster with it on.

Not sure if that would work for me, I have about 10 miles going to work with the highest speed limit at 45 mph (military installation, and you don't want to speed). Anyway, at 45 mph my truck is in 6th gear; with T/H on it will probably stay in 5th gear. It does really wake up the truck though.

Why not just get a tune? or a peddle commander if you like the throttle response?

If I would buy anything it would be a tuner (Bully Dog makes two) so I can get an economy tune, haven't done any research on it yet though. Pedal Commander at $300.00 is a waste of money in my book since it does the same T/H will do for free.

Thought about the tune (DAP) but that would void the extended warranty I have up to 4 years 120k miles.

I would guess that re-wiring and screwing with the tow/haul feature would also void a warranty

Any changes to your electrical wiring........I would be careful because CAN Bus systems are not as forgiving as the simple 12 volt legacy systems. I would also think that most tuners leave a footprint in your ECM which could void the warranty. I know, I know that somebody will mention the Magnusson Act. Bottom line is that Toyota as a company has way more resources then the average consumer if they deny a warranty claim after finding out that a tuner was used. That would be an individual choice to take that risk.

I used a tuner and a complete delete on a Ram CTD before and was fully aware that besides violating the law it voided my warranty. Was a lot of fun though.

I think that the T/H button is a momentary switch that just tells the ECU to make a change to the shift logic. Once you reset by turning off the truck, it resets back to default. I thought that someone devised a circuit for it, but it required timers and such. It's just too easy to press the button.

I heard if he installs it then it's undetectable. He's in Texas so might be an option for you.

Otherwise just make sure to uninstall it before you take it to the dealer and they will never know. I have a BD and I just uninstalled it before they took it for their regular toyota care service. I even left the tuner computer in the truck and they never said anything.

I haven't popped my dash apart yet and the wiring diagram doesn't show what the voltage is on the switches. Can anyone confirm its 12v for sure on the switches? I've got a PHD on staff who's major was in robotics and electronic circuit design. I've already spoken to him about designing a small board that would hook to both switches and simulate the push button (and hold for 3 seconds) on ignition on. Just need the voltages for the parts order.
