x2. Tape is cheap and removable. I went with https://www.amazon.com/TALON-Grips/pages/10065945011 on mine.

It's not always about the stippling itself. I needed the finger grooves gone and wanted the hump on the backstrap gone too. The stippling was just an added bonus and not something tape or gloves could accomplish.

I get that some people don't like modifying their firearms and that a lot of the stipping jobs (most of them really) out there look like total crap but Glocks are not beauty queens or heirlooms. They are simply tools that are all about function over form so the idea of not altering one to function better for you because it might hurt the aesthetics or resale value seems a bit silly IMO.

But to each their own. I'm jelly of the guys who's hands fits a stock G19 perfectly. I'm just not one of those people. So it was either sell the gun or make it fit. I choice the later and I'm happy I did. YMMV?

I have no problems modifying firearms, I have built more guns than most people have owned. The other day I drilled a screw out of my Scorpion to replace a bunch of trigger components. If I had screwed it up it would have destroyed my entire trigger pack.

I don't own Glocks because they fit like a brick, but if I did I wouldn't stipple it not because it's a beauty queen, I wouldn't do it because there are better options for cheaper and less effort.

You bring up a valid point about a major change to the grip. In that case you aren't stippling though, you are shaving and modifying in a major way... Stippling is stippling, reshaping is more...

I don't actually own any poly frame pistols at all anymore, to be honest.

Yeah the stippling is one thing but I had the fingers grooves removed and the grip shaved along with the indention around the mag release. Mag well was also shaved. There really is no comparison from the factory to now. I'm more than pleased.

I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree. I own a number of different guns and gun types and I've built some myself but I've been shooting Glocks since '94 and have tried just about everything out there related to them and IMO, no there is no better solution for getting a better grip on a polymer frame then stippling. I wish there was but like I said, I've tried them all over the years and stippling rules IMO.

The only legitimate issue with stippling that I have found (and the reason I haven't had my G17 stippled) is that for most shooting competitions, stipping the frame will take that gun out of the production class and into the limited class. I think that's BS but it is what it is. Either way, it is something to consider if you shoot competitively but a complete non issue for a carry gun.

Sure, grip tape is less expensive, easier to apply and can be removed but it doesn't give you as secure of a grip IMO and it will wear off. I know, so what if it wears off, just reapply some new tape yada, yada yada. Trust me, I know all the arguments for and against stippling vs tape vs a sleeve. This is an age old argument on any gun forum.

I'm just saying I've been there and done that and for my guns, I'll take a good stipple job over grip tape any day. As always, YMMV?

That's one thing you have to watch. Some people (usually those who haven't been doing it long) can get over aggressive with the stippling but depending on the work done, a good smith like Cold Bore can potentially go over it again and make it a less aggressive. In some cases, you can simply sand down the stippling to make it less aggressive.

By all means, try the Hogue grip as it's cheap and simply but if that doesn't work for you, Try sanding it down some. If that doesn't work for you, consider having another smith rework it and while they're at it, have them remove the finger grooves and undercut the trigger guard too. Makes a big difference IMO.

airgunner, I agree with you that we disagree! That being said, my comment was simply my opinion. I don't like stippling but I also don't like polymer framed pistols and I hate the ergonomics of a Glock. You clearly have some issues with the ergonomics too as you're taking about removing the finger swells and basically completely reshaping the grip.. As I've said many times for many reasons; your money, do what you want with it!

Or just sell that Glock and buy something that fits your hand without all the modification.. And shoots better. ;)
    :crapstorm:

I have also done some limited IDPA competition and 3 gun with a local organization. I'm certainly not a pro but I love shooting and am a firm believer that every shooter is different and needs to do what works for them. As I've said, I've seen some amazing stippling work but I've also seen some clear back yard, $5 soldering iron crap. If it works for you do it. I prefer a steel or alloy frame with removeable grips for a number of reasons, so I really don't have a horse in this race.

Everybody is different and we all have personal tastes and opinions. I'm not arguing with you as much as presenting a different opinion.

I like and own a wide variety of guns. I'm seem to be one of the very few people who loves Glocks AND 1911's. I also own a BHP, Sigs, S&W's, etc. you name it. If I don't own it currently I probably did at some point. I don't get into the polymer vs steel argument as I believe they both have their strengths and weaknesses but I can appreciate both for that they are as long as they are done well and work as expected.

There is a lot more to selecting the right gun or platform for you then just how it feels in your hand. I'm not Glockaholic and I didn't drink the Koolaid so I don't believe that Glocks are somehow magically perfect. Just the opposite, I've searched for years looking for that perfect gun. In the end, the truth is there is no such thing as the perfect gun. That said, after decades of searching and trying everything I could get my hands on, I have yet to find an overall better self defense handgun platform for me.

I get that it's not everybody's cup of tea and I really don't have an issue with that. I do however take issue with those that want to talk shit about it just because they don't like it or can't shoot one well (and I'm not saying that's what you did at all). Love it or hate it, its one of the most proven platforms in the world and that's not an opinion, that's a fact.

BTW, I have also done a few local IDPA and Steel Challenge matches as well as a few defensive training classes. I can generally hold my own but I do not train enough for my skills to be at any kind of bragging level. I can however hit the broadside of a barn and shoot my way out of a wet paper bag! :quickdraw:LOL

I actually am not a huge Glock hooker either, and until the 4th gen, wouldn’t have considered another.

However, it is a proven design, I shoot it well regardless of how it fits in my hand(s).

A G19G4 was my daily, before my horrific boating accident. Even a polymer weapon gets heavy in water.

I had not had the time to do any mods before this one went down in the abyss.

Curious what you were doing on a boat with a gun and what accident caused you to lose it?

Proven design for sure..i can even hit what I'm aiming at with a Glock, just prefer something that feels more... connected.

I always say, guns are like underwear. If they don’t fit, they offer poor support or are up your ass. Neither of these situations are good.

I actually have never shot a gun I didn’t like. I do have preferences as well. If I could get my hands on a XDm for a good price, I would buy one today.

I've owned a few Glocks in the past, they are reliable and I didn't hate them. I've never been shy about the fact that I'm pretty die hard CZ and Sig nowadays..

My friend likes shooting CZs, but his fat little dwarf fingers cannot reach the slide release so he hates them. Gun is good, doesn't fit his needs though. I'm fine with that even though he's clearly at fault and obviously wrong.

CZ is the second most copied pistol design on the planet next to the 1911!

So I'm just going to throw this out there...it is my opinion and only that and will likely NOT be swayed but I feel it's a fairly important thought process...

As discussed above, if you're removing finger grooves or undercutting the trigger guard...then my thought process doesn't necessarily apply

I don't like stippling. I don't like the way it feels in my hand or against my skin if done to a carry pistol. I carried a Gen 3 G22 for around 10 years as a duty weapon and there were many many tracks in the woods, in the rain, in the cold...basically any shitty weather you can have in the southeast and never once did I feel like I had a poor grip on my pistol or it was going to slip out of my hand. The next to last PT test involved red clay mud, monsoon rain, and sliding down a 20 foot embankment then drawing and shooting a round of fire. No gloves allowed. The gun stayed in my hands even transitioning between hands and never once did I think I was going to lose my grip.

Combine that with my distaste for the feel of stippling I just cannot grasp doing it.

I don't feel the need for the other modifications either, but I don't have giant hands or thick fingers so the trigger guard doesn't bother me and I actually like the finger grooves.

My Glock 30S is about the best fitting pistol in my hand. And it’s close to the size of my 4th gen 19 with the med backstrap. I love both of those. Shoot them well and don’t worry about the shine coming off.

That was until the tragic boating mishap where I lost both of them.

To bad we didn’t live closer. I have a feeling that you have a few guns I wouldn’t mind putting a round or two, or 100 through.
