Did mine this past weekend. It was warm (65 degrees in Bama) and was able to get them off with just fishing line but had a heat gun if needed. My 18 is just a couple months old so the adhesive came right off and just hit it with a little WD-40 for a small amount of residue. The black looks awesome on my Metallic Grey Tundra.

Honestly mine looked similar to how yours is right now. I used goo gone up to that point then a spray wax and then a buddy of mine came over and he brought over his McGuire’s wax. After the McGuire’s wax everything looked good. Maybe @TheBeast can give you some pointers. I think he has a black 2012 that he debadged not too long ago.

hard to tell if it's clear coat. Mine had a shadow too from the badge but it was glue residue and that was a bitch to remove. I spent more time cleaning that shadow than removing the badge/tape itself.

heat up, goo gone, clay bar..repeat..and a lot of elbow grease. Use microfibers towels and change often. once all clean, clay bar again and wax it. It's gone.

OK thanks fellas. I know nothing about waxing or any of that, so off to the internet and then auto store after work it is.

I used a hair blower on the highest setting, heat it up nicely, grab a fishing line or floss and go to town.

I debadged my tundra about a year after I bought it and it looks great. I was a little scared at first though.

I can't get the dealer decal off, its a shiny silver decal. Tried the hairdryer trick and only a few letters came off so now it reads...

Your finger should be able to answer that question. If that section feels raised compared to the paint next to it then it's just adhesive residue. If that section feels lower than it might be missing clearcoat? Unusual if it is but sometimes shit happens.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking, and the result that test gives me isn't good. Like I said though, if its the case I'll just put them back on or some other decal.

I am no expert, but it seems to me that if the clearcoat is actually gone - which is what it looks like in the pic - you probably want to put some sort of sealer or clearcoat on the spot for protection, before you rebadge or put a stick on it. I'd be worried about rust perhaps. Again, I am no expert though.

Usually if it's a TRD off road and has a sticker on the side, it doesn't have the 4x4 emblem. Do you have the sticker?

Sounds like a job for a professional if that's the case. The last thing I want to do is make it worse.

cool beans. I already surpassed 231,000 miles on it. I was going to sell the truck, but decided to keep it so I can give it to my grandson on his 16th birthday. He is 14 now. He just might get some in high school with the truck, I mean, get a lot more mileage on the truck. Geez !!

Looks like the clear is somehow missing from one of mine as well, the rest of the badge removal went perfectly. Really wierd and upsetting as I had high hopes for this DIY mod, now it seems to have opened Pandora’s box as my OCD will not allow my eyes to overlook it. I now have to soul search, put ‘em back on, or take it to a body shop for a fix?
