I am looking to add a hard folding tonneau bed cover to my truck and wondering if any out there use the factory rail system? Any bakflip mx4 or gator fx5 users? What do you like about your covers?

    Thanks for the help.

I have MX4. Not thrilled. Leaks, dents easily on bed side, and rivets are rusting already (got it in May). Dropping the rails and the low profile also make it impossible to install the awesome Voo Doo bed racks, or similar designs from other vendors. I should have gone with Extang.

I use the Rugged Hard Liner II. It's a tri-fold liner and doesn't get much simpler. Installed out of the box in 10 minutes. It can come on and off in minutes and keeps the water out. I've been very pleased with it. Also, since it sites on top of the bed/tailgate, no mods to the rail system is required. Built in LED lights that are battery operated providing a little light when needed.

With the Bak, x2 did you have to remove the factory rail system? Can you remove the whole cover quickly if needed?

I have the MX4. I did not buy the drop down brackets, but, I did find similar enough brackets at home depot for about a dollar. I did try that one I bought and it will work to drop the factory rail system down. I have had it since last summer. I never noticed any leaks and if it does it is very little. This is my first bed cover so i don't have anything to compare it to. I can snatch it off in about 10 mins or less.

I have the MX4, love the look and function of these covers but I wouldn't do it again. Very slight tiny size hail storm beat the crap out of the panels, other parts are looking worn, and the drop deck rails cause problems with other attachments.

I have the Extang solid fold 2 and I really like it. It uses the factory bed rail system and you can still move/access the tie downs. It keeps things dry, I just have a small leak around the tailgate (but that’s not the cover). It would be very difficult to dent the material it is made from. It does sit above the bed, so some people might not like that look. I don’t mind it, the extra inch in the back almost adds to the the bulldog like stance of the truck!

Agreed on all fronts. While I haven't had any damage on the top of the cover yet, I have several dents/impressions on the inside surface of the cover. Really a weak material. As a whole, I have the cover only a few months, but it already looks as if it's been on the truck years. Rusting, fading, and the rubber is really worn despite using AERO 303 a lot. I am not looking forward to what it will look like a year from now.

Interested in this. Do you have a pic? From what little I've seen of the Bakflip brackets, they just look like a rectangular piece of metal with 2 holes in them. The difference in price to add these is $100. Seems like one could make something work just as well but much cheaper.

edit: price difference is $50, still seems to high for those brackets.

I've got some generic Amazon special I picked up new for 60 dollars. Then I cut if to fit my toolbox. I'll eventually get around to putting a less saggy one in. As mine has stretched alot since putting it on last year. But I do open and close my cover several times a day. Probably more than anyone should with a cheap cover. It's far from water proof. But it keeps things hidden from prying eyes. And snow stops that great MN snow. Oh and when it rains I can measure how much it rained with how big of a puddle I've got on the the middle of my cover lol.

I have this one and agree. I get a little water through the tailgate when washing , just waiting until warmer weather to apply a tailgate seal. I agree it would take a heck of an impact to dent.

If money isn't an issue I recommend Diamondback covers. It would take a meteor to dent it.

Yes i did, you can remove it fairly quickly once you have installed it, would go out pretty quickly , heres a picture of how far down it will go.

Thanks to those of you that posted negative reviews of the M4, I've decided to knock that one off my list.

I'm down to comparing Extang and Roll-N-Lock.

The vendor's YouTube videos make the Roll-N-Lock look pretty bad-ass at theft protection. But some of the on-line reviews from purchasers mention leaking. I've figured out there's a gap built inside at both corners of the Tundra tail-gate, so maybe this isn't to do with the protection of the cover.

I'm hoping for more info from members that have had either of these installed for more than a year. Security on the Entanglement EnCore and weather protection on the Roll-N-Lock are my question. Thanks in advance!

it's super flimsy, it's a pain in the ass to fold back as you have to collapse the hold downs, trifolds generally suck as you lose 1/3rd of the bed above the rail.

On top of that, mine is de-laminating, it leaks like a sieve... i think that's about it for now. I mean, if i picked one up for $100 or so then it's a good deal, but there are WAY better options for not that much extra money. When i replace mine, i'll be giving this one away, i'd feel guilty asking for money for it.

It would be easy if I knew the dimensions of the bracket. Does anyone have them that could give me the length, width, metal thickness, and measurement of holes?

Extang Solid Fold 2.0, still able to use the factory rail system because it sits on top of the bed. Doesn’t have that flush look like other covers, but overall happy with the appearance. Have only had it on a couple days, so the verdict is still out on long term satisfaction.
