I just purchased a 2018 Tundra SR5 Double Cab and noticed it didn't have a skid plate. Do all Tundras come with skid plate or just TRD version?

I think it's part of the TRD package. But, not to worry, those ones are kinda flimsy. Black Friday is around the corner and you can get an RCI skid plate that's way better.

I agree my skid plate is all bent to hell and I don't even beat on the truck or alteast I think.

When I ordered my 2017 DC, the dealer said it came with real skid plates. Showed me a brochure with nice looking skid plates. Got the truck later that week and they are cheap plastic skid plates or really just mud splash guards. Was really Pissed and let them know it. Didn't care that they were plastic but I hate being lied to by the dealer.

Thanks fisherman951, no I'm not looking to buying one I was just curious if SR5 models came with skid plates. Besides I don't plan on going off road with my truck it's only a 2WD and with no skid plates it's one less thing to remove when doing an oil change.

I know the fuel tank skid plate is plastic.
is your engine skid plate plastic also?
I have seen engine skid plates with same material as the fuel tank (plastic?) and am wondering where they come from.

Love how the RCI looks. Been thinking about getting one. Hows the access door when changing oil filter?

Changed my oil a several weeks ago in my 4x4 '14 CM LTD & had to remove a solid metal chunk to access the filter.

My previous daily driver was a 5 series that had substantial underside plastic cladding but had a "trap door" for oil drain plug access (the filter is a cartridge, mounted at the top of the engine).

My truck's plate (skid or whatever) was missing one each of the different sized fasteners, so off to the big box home improvement & then the auto parts store to find new ones.

I don't know if I'm more jealous of your skidplate or that your truck fits in your garage

All Tundras come with at least the metal black skid plate. The PRO comes with the trd skid plate and you can purchase it separately to as an accessory. And the trd plate is beefy, its actually a lift point for the truck.

Not completely true...perhaps you are referring to all 4 wheel drive models? My 2016 Platinum 2 wheel drive model did not/does not come with any skid plate. I bought a TRD Pro skid plate take off to have one. Why? Because I wanted some protection from road debris and yes, the oil change panel works nicely.

    See fine print
That’s weird. My 16 Platinum 4x4 came w the thin metal skid plate...replaced it anyway w RCI.

It should’ve came with one. I have never have a new Tundra in the last 10 years that did not come with one. I’m in the KC region.

Perhaps it's because yours is 4 wheel drive and mine is 2 wheel drive. I checked other 2 wheel drive Platinum and 1794 models...same thing.

That’s odd especially on the higher in models. I could see the base SR 2wd maybe not having one, but even then I have never seen it. It could be a region thing I suppose.

As far as that thin black skid plate (not the aluminum TRD one), only the TRD Off Road package will get you that regardless of trim level. I've seen them on 2x4 and 4x4, doesn't matter. Its simply part the TRD OR package.
