Bridgestone Duellers H/T . How bad are they really?

I recently bought a 2012 Tundra 4x4 with new Bridgestone Duellers H/T

How bad are they off-road? I don't do any thing crazy, mainly simple easy trails.
I also want to hit the mountains during snow season. I am in California, so again nothing crazy.

I really don't want to bother upgrading tires now, since I also want new wheels in the near future. I want to upgrade tires and wheels at the same time. Need to wait until next year for that.


So tell me. How good or how bad are they?

 

Keep em on. If you aren't doing anything crazy they show be fine. Just be careful winter driving in the mountains

 

That's what I am thinking. A brand new tire that is rated at m+s should be good enough for now.

Any one else run their Bridgestone tires or did everyone get rid of them immediately?

 

I ran Duellers on my 4runner for 2 years before I sold it. They were not bad for what I used it for. I never got stuck with them in the snow (2-4 Inches). Off-road I never got stuck with them and they were decently grippy.

However after 1 year they had worn significantly, even while being rotated every 5k miles. Once they were worn out they did not perform as well off-road. IMO, they should have had greater longevity.

How many miles you think you did in the first year? Or I should say how many miles before you thought they weren't performing that well.

 

I had them on my FJ for 50,000 miles before I bought bfg at. They still had plenty of tread. They did alright for Maine winters.

 

Sounds like I am good for a few years then. How were they off-road?

 

I had a different experience than @Theonlyway . They lasted around 35,000 Miles before they started performing badly. They were at 20-30% tread (40,000 Miles) when I sold the 4runner. The guy who bought the 4runner still is running them and they are bald as shit. He has put an additional 25,000 Miles on them since he purchased the 4runner from me.

IMO, BFG ATs are the way to go. I will be going with BFGoodrich K02s -LT rated when I get new tires here in a year or so.

If i were you I would run them until 30% tread and then get new ones, after 30% tread they do not grip the snow or mud too well.

 

Oh that is more than enough time to save money for the K02s. My truck sees about 7-8k miles a year. If I can get two years out of the Bridgestones, that would be more than enough time. I was more worried of them being junk right of the bat. I really don't want to drop 1k on tires when my current tires are new.

What tires are you currently running?

 

Well when I purchased my Tundra, it had new Firestone Destination tires on it (street tires). I do not do too much off-roading so they work for now. I am going to use them up for about 2 years before I get the K02s.

 

I bought my 09 Taco with the Duelers. Had about 1/2 the tread left so I didn't know how many miles were on them. Same day I bought it I went to Discount Tires and shoed the Taco with GY DuraTracs. Yours should be OK until you have enough scratch saved up to upgrade.

 

That's the plan here too. 2 years is good enough time.

 

Yeah if they were half worn I would have too. But brand new tires, that seems like wasted money. Especially because I could probably get $350 max for them. I rather wait a few years. Now wheels, that is going to be hard to wait.

 

Doesn't hurt to use them. They are new. Get your moneys worth out of them. Not sure what rims you are looking for but i like mine...
