I can see, creates a unique style with history. I love how the pattern is completely organic. You did a great job on the spine as well. I also like the pattern on the sheath, as it compliments the scales and the Damascus pattern.
Very unique, I would be proud to carry such a blade. Do you have others for sale?

This Asian style chef’s knife has an 8” blade. The handle is stabilized spalted walnut Burl and ebony with a red g-10 spacer. The Damascus is mosaic pattern from 15n20 & 1084 carbon alloy steel.IMG_2919.jpg IMG_2920.jpg IMG_2922.jpg IMG_2923.jpgAvailable

Probably my last mini-cleaver for a while. My friend doing the kydex and I gave up on printing the Damascus pattern onto the Kydex (for now). It wasn’t working out well.IMG_2927.jpg IMG_2926.jpg IMG_2924.jpg IMG_2928.jpgScales are stabilized spalted walnut Burl with blue g-10 liners. This one is available

My daughter sat us down tonight and discussed a few issues she has been having at gas stations lately with random dudes walking up to her. The last one was a 40's guy and was complimenting her on the 2011 Toyota Corolla she has. That's a red flag.

Since pepper spray is illegal to be in the possession of someone under 18 in Colorado, other options are needed.

She wants to get a knife, and there are so many different uses for them. I gave her my bench made for now.

Since we have a thread on knives and some system experts:

    Good quick draw knives

    -pocket knife
-fixed blade. Looks like a horizontal carry would be the ticket, but what else is available?

We will get her a pocket knife at the least...but maybe a fixed blade as well.

    Opinions?

On a side note, I'm proud that she kept distance and noticed these men approaching her. I have preached about being alert and it paid off.

Fixed blade over an opener for self defense... (reduced potential points of failure during a deployment).

You'll want to verify jurisdictional issues/laws regarding blade length, double sided, etc...

Blade secured on her person in a stable, fixed location that is accessible to both hands (such as appendix carry, etc.)

When a blade (or firearm) is carried in a purse, etc. draw time is significantly increased as having an unstable platform to draw from means securing that platform w/off hand first to ensure a proper strong hand draw or vice versa... either way, it's doable but not ideal...

Training, training, training... because using a knife in self-defense requires close proximity, it's paramount that she's highly versed in retention of that weapon. One of the worst things that could happen would be for her to access the weapon in self defense and then lose the blade to the attacker...

I know you know this, but just to reiterate, drawing and deploying a knife, gun or any other weapon needs to be an absolute last resort to be placed in imminent jeopardy. First lines of defense should always be situational awareness, avoidance, making a scene, escaping, running, etc...

Ka-bar has a line fixed blades called TDI, check them out. Could be kept in the door and put on person as she gets out of vehicle.

I was just talking with a group of folks, about how I always have a knife. Even as a 6'1" reasonable athletic built male in his 30's. The world is just crazy and I have no trust/faith in people. Plus I walk my dogs or am outdoors with either loose dogs or just animals from nature and its better to be prepared. Most my knives are 2" to under 3.5" so easy to have on your personal but will do what I need from them.

But talk to her a about what she is willing to do and find something that fits her ability.

Teach her where soft spots are for ease of entry, to make any knife more effective. Also, you do you, but if my daughter felt safer carrying pepper, fuck that ridiculous law.

My girl carries a neck knife. Not a bad choice for a lady. Can be worn without a belt and isn’t easily seen to be taken away from her/used against her.
    Just a thought.

Any blade that is used for defense purposes should have a super solid grip, one that your hand will not slide forward during use.

    https://www.bladehq.com/cat--CRKT-M...iOE1ZqeQvON18oQBTaCpuEOHHQ20Jef8fu8PlF-Rq-4xe

Doesn’t have to be $$$ to get the job done, however it does need to stay in her hands.

For strictly self defense I’d recommend a push dagger. Won’t slip out of her hand easily.

There’s also those personal alarms that can go on keychains. Maybe a deterrent like that would be a better option over actually fighting someone as long as there’s someone around to hear it.
