Does the FACE of the head unit have JBL screened onto it anywhere? If not, then the amp and the radio weren't intended to be paired together.

Have you registered yet at the Toyota Owner's website, to pull the spec sheet for your truck to see what it actually had from the factory?

Nah, it's probably because he's not using the correct replacement harnesses. Not all the trucks are wired the same.

It really doesn't help that @Darbyb just keeps running all over the forum putting little posts with info here, then other posts with info in another thread, then in another thread. It's effectively shooting onself in the foot trying to get help. Best case is to create a dedicated thread, where we considate all the info/pics and problems into one thread. That way we can focus on **THIS** problem, and not the other people's problems.

I was responding to why there was a bunch of butt connectors in there between the factory wiring and the factory plug.

Got it! The wiring isn't matching wire-to-wire either.

I was thinking the (or one of the) previous owner(s) was too stupid/lazy/cheap to buy a $8 adapter harness and went ham to cut all the original plugs out. I suspect Darby here has purchased used replacement hardware from incorrect make/model/year with the correct harnesses for the used equipment, which aren't the correct harnesses for their truck. Like, JBL amp from an '01-'04 Sequioa w/JBL package, and a head unit for a Tundra or similar, but one that works with either the Fujitsu amp or no amp, depending. I know the radio is, at least, from a 2003 or 2004+ truck, because it has 3 harness openings in the rear, the one in the middle of which is for steering wheel controls, something that didn't exist in earlier years.

Butt connectors are, at least in this case and in my humble opinion, the wrong thing to use for those connections also. Really should be a solder+heatshrink job to repair the OEM harness.
