I see a pile of evap issues talked about here. Here's mine.

A few weeks ago my check engine light came on. I ignored it at first as the engine seemed to be working fine. But, finally I got curious and put a OBD-ll on it and it reported I had a evap problem but didn't elaborate. lol So, I checked around for hose leaks etc but could not see anything suspicious. I did check the gas cap and it appears to be okay as I heard some air when I unscrewed the cap to check it.
Now, what is bugging me is the exhaust smell. Strong and exhaust stinky - it never used to be that way. Something is definitely wrong. I even reset the check engine light and it came back on almost immediately.
Any insight on this or has this happened to you and hopefully it's a simple fix? The truck runs great but this exhaust issue has gotten to me.

Before we can assist further, what DTC did it give you? There are several EVAP codes (large and small) so not all are diagnosed the same. If you check the "so you wanna buy a first gen" sticky tread you'll find near the top a link to the field service manual. The FSM will have tons of info on you truck along with diagnostic trouble trees/flow charts for specific DTCs based on our trucks.

Okay sorry I didn't think of that. Here is what I see for DTC. There are two.

Here ya go. I'd check those 25 year old dry rotten vacuum hoses first.

This. @jimer take a pic of the black plastic box with all the vacuum hoses, that lives between the brake master cylinder and the fender (inside the engine bay).

Sounds like you have some borked up hoses on that thing. There are a bunch of connection points, which I'm circling many (not all) here. Note the two in blue on this guy's are cracked to fuck, and would cause similar codes.
