    Hey guys,

Would love some opinion and input as to the condition of the frame on my ‘04. There is one area of concern which will be the 1st photo and the 2nd photo the outside portion of the suspect area. The 3rd photo is an overview of that area of frame (driver side middle rear).

Other photos just random pics of the frame in different locations. It has an aftermarket aluminum skid plate covering the T-case so it’s hard to see the part where the frame transitions upward to the engine bay.

I’ve had the truck a month and have already done the Aisin Timing Belt kit and OEM LBJ’s. Ready to tackle more but want to know if the frame is more concerning.

    Thanks in advance,

    Cody

Looks good. Yeah, just the frame reinforcement needs addressing. Wire brush it and spray it down with fluid film until you plan to replace it.

That would be the easiest method. May want to check a couple vendor solutions out there like a safe-t-cap from www.autorust.com before fabricating your own. I can’t recall the other vendor but the parts are similar.

Yours doesn’t appear as bad as a lot of them on here so you may get away with not replacing it so long as it’s properly protected.

Frame doesn't look bad at all other than that one delaminating spot--trust what Jack says on rust, he eats rust for breakfast. Aftermarket tow hitches always look worse than the OEM frame so that's not concerning.

That was the main spot I was really concerned about. Saw it during purchase and decided to take a chance on it. Was hoping that it was resolvable without pulling bed and cutting rivets.

Looks like a bed removal is in order!

Are you referring to the delamination portion, like in the first picture?

Yes, this part. Keep an eye on it over time. Not sure where you live, but if you live in an area with road salt you should look into getting the under side woolwaxxed and also make sure they spray inside frame rails

I meant when they start to rust. A lot of the perfect ones probably don’t have it.

I live in South East Texas, about 15 miles “as a crow flies” from the coast (Galveston Bay). The truck does not see any beach though.

Another tip: Take a pressure washer and spray out the inside of your frame rails in the front. Come in from behind the front tire and get any debris out of there. They fill up with dirt that holds moisture which rots them out from the inside.

I'd get at that with a screwdriver, a pic of some sort, and compressed air. Get all of that out that you can so air will flow in and behind it, then spray it liberally with something (I'd use WD-40). Then spray the whole frame with it too.

This frame is brand new compared to mine. I'm having mine clean up, patched up and rustproofed with WoolWax this month. I'm adding pictures of mine to scare all of you into doing the Rust Proof treatment if you live in an area where that's necessary.

    Hydro 7000s boi!

No. It's a harbor freight air coil used as a vent. This is the worst frame I've ever seen. I can't believe it survived the trip home on the trailer.

Been there, done that with POR-15 back in 2012. Now it’s rusting from the inside out.

This is why I mentioned cleaning out the inside of the frame. There is no where for the detritus to go so it rots it out.

Hard to do every winter. Salt spray always finds it way in there no matter what I do to protect it. It always tends to pool and corrode.

Yeah, I had that done as well but it was over POR-15 so it didn’t matter. The POR-15 did all the work. Their stuff as you know was a joke.

Just got scheduled for a frame swap today. Can’t wait for a powder coated Cali frame on my rust bucket..

Watched this one awhile back, POR15 didn’t hold up very well. So what does that tell you about the spray coating

There are some really impressive products in the video, the bridge paint holds up the best IIRC.
