I am burning through Bettas lol I read that goldfish need bigger tanks but mine is only 1.5 gal.

 

I just got a text about this...cannot believe this, but given the climate lately, I shouldn't be surprised. I do hope the full weight of the law comes down on anyone engaging in these terroristic actions.

Growing up with the internet I really have become desensitized to a lot of gore-y type stuff, but that was terrible, absolutely terrible. I actually felt my stomach turn after I watched it.

I'm not a religious guy, but I hope to God Charlie pulls though.

 

A pretty hardy fish that does well in cooler water are Japanese Medaka Rice fish. You can get them in various colors and a school of 10 of them would do great for life in a simple 10 gallon aquarium. Some rice fish with one or two snails would be a nice low maintenance tank that kids would enjoy. The nice part about Medaka's is that they don't need to be in a heated aquarium. Some folks keep them outside year round. They would do fine at room temp in the house.

The issue with something like feeder gold fish is that they get really big and many are diseased already.

My heart breaks for Charlie's family and friends, but also for those who looked up to him. I know I did, and I feel a great sense of loss.

He was a husband, a father, and patriot who genuinely worked to try and save the freedoms and country he loved.

I worry what ramifications this will have, and I hope those who supported him keep in mind his denouncements of political violence. I fear there may be retaliatory acts and that this will spiral out of control.

 

I’d heard of him a while back but don’t know much about him. Didn’t watch it.

Don’t know anything about what the State of Utah is becoming. The only thing that matters to us at this point is the situational awareness in a small radius around us.

We’re not even going to leave the state anymore. Why would we drive out of state with a Colorado tag. Not worth it.

 

I imagine Charlie would be more forgiving, as he did practice what he preached, but I personally would like to feel this man's hyoid break under my thumb.

Definitely not the shooter. Do you think they even know how to shoot a gun let alone get a kill shot in the neck?

 

More deadly violence isn’t surprising, it’s everything, every minute of the day. It’s the bed we have all decided on. Every time someone gets taken out, there’s more talk about taking more people out. The cat, is out of the bag.

I’ve accepted it and am armed to the teeth just like everyone else should be. My wife is working on her permit as well. I actually think we need more guns, on everyone’s hip, at all times. High school kids should be allowed to carry. There should be gun class right after Driver’s Ed class. There’s no reason why 2030 can’t, and shouldn’t be, a little like 1830. It’s just the way it is.

 

I'm a public school teacher and fully support gun safety programs in schools. In TX, we require hunters to go through a safety program when they're young - I see no reason why we can't expand that to everyone.

 

My fear with this thought process is this. If you teach the mentally ill gun safety and how to actually shoot, these events (school shootings) might become more deadly.

I think we’re way past this IMO. It’s the same problem with crime in general.

With the three primary principles to criminal deterrence: the severity of a punishment, the speed at which someone is captured and the certainty he or she will be found.

The focus is about the severity of the punishment. Get everyone in jail. But many people who want to kill don’t care about that. They either want to take someone out and don’t care about consequences, or they’re somewhere where law enforcement is overwhelmed, and speed/certainty are lacking.

So it’s time to focus on the speed and certainty aspects of deterrence. Everyone needs to learn to shoot back, at all times. Then people, even a lot of crazy ones, hopefully won’t draw. If they do, they get taken out. There will be consequences to this approach, but there already are. Think Star Wars, and/or the Wild West. And there won’t be any schools. That’s all smaller groups or online/virtual.

You act like they wouldn't prepare themselves if they're already set on that course. Most of these shooters have manifestos that detail prep & fixation on their intent. Mental illness or not, if someone has the drive and determination to murder innocents, they will prepare for it with or without a gun safety program in schools.
