What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Today, I started insulating my bed and got some retro wheel decals.

 

Now that it has 325K miles on it, I figured I should drop the transmission pan on my 2006 RCLB to see what kind of hideous creatures are living in there. It is the original tranny and never been rebuilt or anything. I did this once before at about 100K miles. I was pleased to see how clean the pan was, just a little fuzz on the magnets to wipe off. The pan had a rubber gasket which didn't leak, yet it fell as soon as the bolts were out. The bolts came out easy in spite of Montana winters.
I have always used the expensive Toyota WS fluid and added 8 quarts every 100K miles or so and changed my Magnefine filter at the same interval.
Toyota paints the inside of the pan with black paint so the pics don't do it justice.

 

I did mine at 100k, new filter and all. I’m at 285k or so now, haven’t done it since. Just some drain and fills along the way.

 

I have never taken my Magnefine filters apart to see what they're catching, But if I wasn't using them I would want to drop the pan at least once every 150K miles whether it needs it or not.

 

Definitely on my list. I just been doing drain n fills every third oil change. But I think I'll probably end up having a transmission shop install a Transgo shift kit, sometime in the future. So I'll just wait til then to replace the filter and clean the metal flakes, since they'll have to drop the pan to take out the valve body anyways.

I've already regeared to 4.56 and VF tuned the ECU. From what I've been reading the next step to bullet proof the truck for all the 5hr+ long, 75mph+ highway drives is the Transgo kit. However some stuff I've read insists that the A750F is already bullet proof as is.

I've already got the Transgo kit sitting in the garage for my A340E, if I ever get around to boosting my 03.

Edit: also first I've heard of these magnetic inline filters. Definitely peaked my interest.

 

I read once that the "break even amount" was 60 seconds. So basically one would have to idle more than 60 seconds to use more fuel than would be used to start the engine. This was some time ago...30 years or something when I read that?

 

Today we did what I call an "odd job." (Anything other than mowing or weedeating is an "odd job.")

I loaded up the 1-axle trailer and the wife and I headed down that steep hill we photographed to repair a downspout for a couple. The lady had hit it with her 4-wheeler(!) and torn it down.

We got the downspout straightened out (I suspect it looks better now than it ever has ) and reattached, much more solid now than it ever was before.

Just not enough hours in the day to do more. Tundra pulled the trailer fine, as always.

But no need for Shift L this time, trailer was empty except for an 8 foot ladder and a single 2x4.
