Is pounding out these lug bolts with a big hammer and a punch a bad idea? I say no big deal. Buddy says may foul up bearings and to remove the hub, so on, so forth. (I know. Pretend it's a Tundra).

Shouldn’t be hard to tap the two broken studs out and then use a lug nut with some washers or a bigger nut to install new studs.

Nice tool but not for $200. I’ve seen it done with a ball joint separator which you can rent from the FLAPS.

That's what I was getting at, a LAPs rental ball joint press like this. C-clamp and a big socket can accomplish the same thing if you have the room.

I like his videos, and that’s definitely worth a watch since he has some high level tips. But he’s skipping over a ton of stuff for the benefit of his target audience. It’s more an overview. I will say over the years the most annoying part of a variety of engines is the little tweak of how to tension the belt after it’s in place. It’s something you can easily screw up after hours and fatigue of getting to that point. His clarity there is helpful.

There are a ton of more detailed ones like Timmy’s that are 10x more detailed.

I really hate how weak these studs are I feel like every time I rotate tires one of them breaks. I don’t use any power tools on them

Changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, rotated the tires, and changed the transmission filter / pan with a drain and fill on the wife’s 2015 JGC. Also installed new sway bar links front and rear on the son’s Mustang. Full shop day.

I was confused. I’ve never broken a lug in my life. But I’ve always bought vehicles from the south. Maybe his truck spent a few winters in Illinois?

Negative. Mine has been a part of New England winters for the last 22 years and I still have all the original studs.
