All this consternation, but i will ask again.......WHAT COMPANY has done more in similar situations? We can argue whether or not toyota is doing enough to restore their repuation for reliability and all the other things. BUT name ONE company that has done more to address a similar situation. I will wait. They are replacing engines....maybe not fast enough, maybe not thorough enough for some, and an inconvenience for sure. I don't discount any of the hardships that affected owners have gone through. I just have faith that Toyota treats its customers better than most of the other car companies. At the end of the day, it's really the choice of picking the least of all evils. I still trust toyota more than any other auto manufacturer.

Yes, the masses will buy anything. Most here on the forum lean towards enthusiast. People who care about the car/truck beyond it being a transportation appliance.

    100% for sure.

I have said all along, shit happens, and when it does, IT SUCKS. but when it does, overall, I trust toyota way more than the others to un-fuck things.

that said, hey toyota, lets go dude, its been what 4-5 years?

I lost my Father in 1994, when I was still a relatively young man (32 years old). It hasn't gotten any easier.

I doubt many here would care about pics of my CJ7. It doesn't have a single computer chip on it. No flat screen TV on the dash. Manual cranks on the windows. It has a carb sitting on a rebuilt AMC 360 engine. I actually have to push in a clutch and shift it myself. And I can pop a wheelie in it, if I get froggy with it.

No dog in the 3rd gen issues (although I have some strong opinions), and I have been following this thread. But I for one WANT to see your CJ7! Please post up.

Hey Fellas. As some in here know i received my Tundra back just over a month ago not from short block replacement. Was told i could use engine to full power. I did do an oil change after 500 miles from replacement. I drove about 500 miles this weekend round trip towing a 5x9 u haul trailer with 2 motorcycles in the back both totaled up to about 700lbs. Anyways on the way back i get a error that says engine power reduced visit dealer. I could still drive and it wasn't like the failure i had before where engine wouldn't turn over and pedal died. I pulled over and i have a banks gauge on and i scanned the codes but nothing showed. went to orielys and they said their scanner didn't show anything either. I decided to disconnect the battery to reset everything. The check engine light went off and everything went back to normal. Drove back home and now it doesn't seem like anything occurred. Has anyone dealt with something like this lol? I'm more inclined to just wait till it does it again to do anything about it since engine was just replaced, Not planning on going out of town again for a while. Losing faith and patience with this truck....

I would contact the dealer that did the work and discuss with them.

sounds like a misfire, this has happened just like that to several members.

I would call the dealer just to document it, (take it in if they want).

but other than that, boost the fuck out it and see if it happens again, better to blow it up again within the warranty that baby it just past the new warranty .

I was in the towing business in the 1980s. No one can convince me that cars back then were more reliable than cars built today. Maybe easier to work on, but no way were they more reliable.

OK, you asked for it. I did all the work myself in my 2-car garage, except for the engine machining. First auto restoration I had ever done. I chose not to replace the cheesy Renegade decals that came on it from the factory. Rebuilt AMC 360, rebuilt T-19 trans, new OME suspension, new rubber, rebuilt Warn 8274 winch, dual battery setup, and several other upgrades. I tried to keep the factory look, while upgrading a few things along the way, mainly drivetrain and engine related.

I'd still like to put a bit shorter gears and lockers in the diffs, but that may never happen.

It's not Concours quality, but I think it turned out nice.

You know, I had a 2000 dodge Dakota with the 4.7 that I put 217,000 miles on.
That's an awesome restoration! Great work!

Thanks for the complements on my CJ, gentlemen. It was a satisfying project.

I could bore you with hundreds of pics, but I tried to post the highlights.

Some of the work I'm proudest of are the patches I had to do to the tub where rust had eaten thru. I had never done any body work or welding until then. Here's an example of under one the roll bar pads.
