[Old thread brought back to life with new 2021 replacing 2017 CM]

I've had a number of times where drivers were unable to see that I was turning. I really don't like that from the side of the vehicle, you cannot see the turn signal blinking. How can I get the front side markers to blink when I am turning? I have a 2021 SR5 CrewMax with LED mods.

I apologize if someone else has asked this. I did a search on side markers and no real results for what I am looking for.

    Thanks,
    TBS

I like the idea. I'm sure someone will have a solution. Maybe electrical genius @TundraTex ?

Get mirrors with turning signal or bolt markers to the mirrors.. They are already prewire with turning signal..but I do agree it's hard with such a big truck. now try it while towing a 30ft camper on I4 between Tampa and Orlando..

I think this is a great idea so I did a little searching.
    Found this:
"Disconnect the GROUND wire to the front marker light, and connect the
bulb's ground to the switched signal on the adjacent indicator.

    That's it!

    Quick explanation:

    1) When the indicator is off, the +side is grounded. When it's flashing,
this alternates between +12 and ground (obviously)
    2) The marker light's +side is grounded when switched off.
    3) Because of (2) when the indicator is switched on, you pull the ground
side of the marker to +12v lighting the marker with the indicator
    4) When headlights are on, the marker is grounded through the indicator
    (1) and lights up as usual. When the indicator flashes ON, the marker
light turns OFF, as both of its connectors are taken to +12v.

A bulb doesn't care which way round the supply is connected. This takes
advantage of that and the fact that the relays/flashers ground their
    outputs when off."

I think you may have it electrically. Do you know if anyone has tried this? Seems simple enough.
Question though? Would that make a fast blink? Even if the side marked was an LED?

I've done it, and I have LEDs for the side marker lights. The thing Is, you have to make sure they're in the right way because the LEDs have polarity. So basically when my lights are off during the day the side marker is also off and does not blink with the turn signal. But when my lights are on, the side marker is constant on and is also a blinker. If you keep the traditional bulb in there then it's a blinker when your lights are on or off, it just alternates with the directional bulb. And for those who still have the Amber DRLs the side marker is constantly on with those too.

I wouldn't think that you would have the traditional led blink rate issues. With this mod you are simply cutting power to a light that is constantly on (when your headlights are on) instead of sending power through the led & then completing the circuit.

Correct. Also I don’t believe the side maker light circuit gives a “light out” error to the computer when they burn out, so you wouldn’t have that problem with an led either.

Old thread brought back to life.

I have traded in the 2017 for a 2021 SR5 Crewcax with the halogen headlights which I promptly replaced with LED bulbs all around. (Headlights, Turn signals, & side markers) I still wonder if a simple harness will do the trick vs doing more surgery on the existing wires. I have already soldered in resistors and for the LED turn signals and did not like stripping the insulation back. At the time I did not know about the plug and play resistors.

@memario1214 or @Puppypunter can you rig up a harness to do this?

I would be willing to pay to get this feature. I am sure others might as well
Still do not like that someone on the side can't see my turn signal because the side markers do not blink.

    Thanks,
    ~TBS

So you’re trying to make your side markers part of the turn signal identification?

I would like the marker lights to stay on as normal but when my turn signal blinks I would like the marker lights to blink as well.

It would be ok if the marker lights turn off the same time as the signal lights turn on. Ie 180deg out. The effect from the side is that my marker lights are blinking. You do not know they are opposite the turn signal. Also both are LED's if that helps with the wiring. See post #5 about possible polarity tricks.

Honestly I like the stock look.

I just upgraded the bulbs with some LED's.
Just wish the side markers blinked when I turn on the turn signal.

    Thanks-

I forgot to mention my DRL's are the white LEDs under the headlights. NOT the turn signals.
    Don't know if that matters.

I think it's even more of a handicap the higher you're lifted.

The perfect mod for this is the Opt 7
Sidekick Sequential Running Board Switchback LED Strip Kit

It puts the very obvious signal right in LOS with many drivers on either side of ya. I never have ppl trying to push into a lane when I'm signaling for a change.

Also doubles as a step light and/or puddle light.

That is fantastic. Of course there are none available at the moment though. Can this be run just for the turn and not the step/puddle?

Yes. Every function has its own wire to connect.

I believe they offer the kit under a different name on that site. May wanna try doing a search.

This seems simple but this thread has been around since 2017 and still no solution without a relay. Must be harder than I thought.

@Puppypunter what do you think of maybe
    https://www.vleds.com/v6-triton-kit-a-3157.html

And then tie the sidemarker connector + and - to the dim and ground inputs and do a T harness for the front turn connector to grab + and feed it to the bright input on the triton bulb?

Would we need diodes to prevent parking lights backfeeding to the turn signal? Might encounter hyperflash with the increased resistance depending on if the tritons have resistors included?

Thinking of ways to make a no-relay flashy sidemarker for OP.

    Ok
Information overload here, been through all these threads. I have a few questions I hope you all can help with.
Thanks to the write up above I will try and make my front side markers into turn signals.
    1) If I get an LED flasher relay (Not sure if they make one for a 2016 Tundra SR5) will that negate the need for all the pesky load resistors?
    2) I bought a set of iBrightstar switchbacks, added the resistor to the turn signal portion. But the white only comes on if I turn on my lights or parking lights. any way to fix this. I would like to have white on (DRL) and amber turn signal, turn signal works fine no hyper flash
    3) I have the Spyder with the white Halo parking light, can I tap the power on that to the respective (currently amber) DRL so that the halo comes on when I turn the truck on?
    4) what is the purpose of DRL disable?
