But, if this is your cup of tea, it is best to be enjoyed in small, short-duration doses...

In other words have a fun fling or two w/what your're attracted to, knowing that it would be turmoil in the long run, and then move on to the next one... really nothing wrong w/that!!!!

41 years married, 6 years dating before that.
Two words describe a successful marriage.
    Yes and ma'am.

I guess there's also compatibility things and common goals. There is that.

I just hate the happy wife happy life thing because I've seen men give up their happiness pursuing it. Guess they thought as long as she was getting everything she wanted then she'd take care of them. Didnt go that way. Husbands have to be happy too, or it doesn't work.

I got married at the tender age of 36. My wife was 30. We’re about to cross our 7th year of marriage.

When we started dating, I was primarily living in Malaysia and she was in CO. It was a bit of a challenge, but we made it work. At the time, I was happy being single, and by that, I mean I was happy with who I was and where I was going, but I was willing to give dating a try.

But being married changed me. It was like looking in a mirror, but the reflection was all of the things I needed to change about myself, to be a better a husband to my wife.

I had been an outdoor cat for so long, I didn’t realize the selflessness needed to be a caring husband. Not because my wife asked, but because she’s such an amazing woman, there was no way in hell I was going to fck things up and hurt her.

And I look at where we are now, and I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else. She’s preggers with what will be our first, and fingers crossed it sticks. I never thought I would be a new dad at this age, but I also couldn’t imagine being any more prepared than I am now. I have my better 2/3rds to thanks for that :)

Summer is officially over. The sun is behind the ridge before 7pm. And temps are dropping as I'm writing this.

I agree, I was being a little sarcastic. We've seemed to find a happy ballance. We're maybe just rare or, lucky or just meant to be. @gosolo knives are a good example, she thought it was too much to spend for a knife, once in a lifetime purchase, or maybe two or three. Or five. She went shopping today for the grandkids. Six hours, dunno much she spent, don't care. She'll be happy, the grandkids will be happy.
We'll go to a fancy tee shirt store tomorrow because she wants to. And to a nice restaurant for a late lunch early dinner because I want to.

So I'm noticing a trend here over the last couple of pages. We have a quite a few guys in the happily married for a long time group, and a surprising amount in the #no lady friend ever again group. Don't we have anybody in the yeah, I like staying single cause then I can bang multiple lady friends group, or something along those lines? Or, are we all just to old to be in that last group?

Nah. I don't want to just bang. I want the partnership. Without it, sex is meaningless to me.

But we already know I'm not right in the head.

There are a lot of crazy women out there. I don't want to bring that into my life. Not to mention STD's. I chased skirts from Junior High all the way through till my late 20's. Once I got involved with serious relationships the novelty of chasing tail had worn off. Just felt incredibly childish. My tolerance for bullshit, craziness and drama is pretty much nil these days.

My best friend who is 53 has a handful of women he rotates through. I have seen a few of them. Husky ladies...

Feels like it. Gotta use the desert to supplement our short summers.

We've been looking at Twisp as our next stop after the girls get out to high school. Personally I think it'll be too hot, but as per our latest conversation has shown, it's not just about one person's happiness and my wife is over the high elevation and short summers. As long as I have rivers close by I'll make do.

My parents have been married for 45 years. Dad's words of wisdom:

    - You can be happy, or you can be right.

    - The two most important words in marriage are "Yes, dear".

Personally I subscribe to "mildly irritated wife, amusing life".

I call myself old because I'm over fifty. But according to my math I was 4 when you and your wife started dating.
