In the video, Ryan mentioned that Toyota bought his truck back after its engine blew up. Can someone explain how that can be accomplished instead of accepting a bandaid short block repair? I assume it requires getting Toyota Corp involved, but what/who determines if they buy back a truck versus fixing it?

Do you know for fact that Ryan used a lawyer, or just assuming?

    Thanks, man.

I'd like to contact Ryan directly, but I don't do any social media except here and a Jeep forum.

If any of you know how I can do so, or could relay a message from me to Ryan, please private message me.

    Thanks.

Most manufacturers follow the standard "route" when it comes to lemon law buybacks. You get a lawyer, file a claim with state AG office, etc, etc. Most manufacturers don't even push back much, they want the case resolved and move on. Lemon law buybacks must be reported and get into official NHTSA statistics.
But Toyota is sneaky. They don't want their lemons to be reported in the official statistics. So when you file a lemon law case against Toyota, they look into it carefully. If they believe your case isn't very strong, they will send their lawyers to fight back. They basically will try to wear you out, the longer the case, the more expensive it gets to you and they hope you will simply give up. But if your case is strong, Toyota will offer an out-of-court settlement. Toyota will make you a generous offer in exchange for a non-disclosure agreement. They basically will buy your silence. This is why Toyita has an incredibly low number of "official" lemon law cases. Toyota doesn't mind spending extra money for the sake of protecting their reputation.
How do I know? Because I went through a somewhat similar issue with Toyota once. Toyota is an incredibly unethical company.

So, Colorado's Lemon Law gives the dealership, or agent, 4 failed repair attempts or 30 days to make repairs. Since the short block repairs are taking at least 6 weeks just to get the parts in, wouldn't they all qualify for the Lemon Law?

How much are legal fees typically to file the claim, and will Toyota pay for them if they settle in exchange for a non-disclosure?

What is the typical mileage, or use, deduction?

Are taxes and extended warranties reimbursed in the settlement?

So everyone that has the “old” crank girdle and block are SOL and aren’t covered? Will there be a massive recall for every tundra with the old design?

It's really not that much BS to keep up with, IMO.

Toyota issued a recall on a totally arbitrary number of engines, blamed the problem on "debris", and claimed the problem had been resolved for engines beyond the recall period. Obviously it wasn't resolved.

They also claimed hybrids aren't included in the recall because they have "motive power" when the ICE engine fails. They don't according to numerous reports.

Now we have a self-proclaimed "insider", who usually has fairly accurate info, claiming Toyota is redesigning the crank girdle and block, which are obviously 2 integral parts to the main bearings that are failing. This is unconfirmed, but certainly plausible.

Beyond that, all we have is a bunch of speculation about how this will all play out in the future, and a bunch of off-topic jibber jabber.

    Did I forget anything, Borla?

I guess IF Toyota redesigns the block/griddle and DOES NOT recall ALL trucks with the old design, we should just hope and pray our engines run until the redesign is the standard and then have warranty/extended warranty replace our motors with the new ones…I believe Toyota will give everyone outside the current recall window a CSP for failures

Yeah I wonder if all recall trucks will get the old design once the redesign happens, or will the long blocks manufactured after the redesign get the new one. They’re trying to get them done before spring 2026 but there will for sure be some after that.

Customer Support Program. Basically Toyota acknowledges there is a problem but doesn’t have to do a recall because not every vehicle is affected. Example is the 10-15 Prius have one on the brake booster/pump assemblies. Toyota covered these under “warranty” for something silly like 15 years 150K miles. I’m not at work right now and can’t look up the specifics. They have one that is real common on RAV4, Camry, Corolla and Avalon for the coolant by pass valves

Thinking about it Prius has several for those years including an inverter rebuild that’s good for something crazy like 20 years unlimited mileage I think

Thank you. I really haven't kept updated on how Toyota handles random, but reoccurring problems. Never needed to until now.

I still won't accept a bandaid short block repair if my engine fails. I'll want a new engine with known redesigned parts, or they can buy my truck back at at a fair price.

Usually…..the CSP would provide recall part #’s. So there would be a good chance that Toyota would put long blocks/crate motors, whatever you want to refer this recall motor to.

I hope the people who have failures outside of the recall period are also submitting formal complaints to the NHTSA, in addition to the FB groups.

CSP or no CSP, Toyota is taking a big risk that there will be no fatalities due to their engine failure. The more that are out there without whatever the fix is the higher the probability.

I am no lawyer but doesn’t the recall cover them from future lawsuits? I’m not sure you can go after Toyota over a design flaw..???? They “fixed” the debris issue, so they say.
