I was thinking 10 year 150K miles if my motor makes it that long I would consider it fine.

This adds to the dilemma. Do you get the engine replaced when you get the call or do you wait? If you wait, and if the engine eventually goes, are you now at the back of the line and waiting months for a replacement, especially if they've opened the recall to more years. It's a mind fuck!

    ---

I agree, if they were to extend the warranty I'd be a much happy 3rd gen owner that's for sure. I guess the fact that it is a safety recall, it is kind of like an extended warranty though?

    ---

Can you elaborate on why you think the extended schedule is better for everyone? Just more time for them to try and pin point the actual issue?

    ---
Full engine swap not just the short block? That doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

IDK, I had 15 years and 125K miles on my 2009 Tacoma and it was just getting broken in. Damn thing actually needed a set of tires along the way, though.

What a mess. This truck has been a disaster from day one.

The intriguing thing about owning a Toyota was peace of mind, knowing you had something dead reliable. I would have no qualms about owning a late 90's/early 2000's Land Cruiser at 350 miles and I would, without hesitation, drive it across the country and back. Nobody is ever going to buy one of these Tundras in the 40's or early 50's and make the same claim. Extreme reliability is gone thanks to all these stupid turbos and crazy electronics, cost-cutting, engine tech that is apparently too complex for Toyota engineers to understand, etc.

Now that the reliability factor is gone, why stay with Toyota? We all know they cost a good chunk of change more than the domestics. Go look at the big 3 (Nissan if you need a smaller truck; the Frontier looks nice) and see what kind of deal you can get. If owning outside of warranty and/or buying used, you can use some of that money that you saved by going to the big 3 for repairs and chances are you'll come out ahead. This is of course you have no interest in the excellent 2nd gen Tundra.

The fact that failures had occurred after February 13, 2023 build dates prior to them issuing the recall.

They did it because they knew they couldn't recall 2023s that were left over going into the 2024 model year and the fact that they still needed to sell trucks. They have ZERO data pointing to the issue being resolved on exactly February 13, 2023 or even before.

One is too many when you consider the language used by Toyota in the recall. Given, there is some lawyer speak in there, it still shouldn't have happened. Period.

Completely arbitrary date. Plenty of January 2023 trucks not in the recall as well.

I’ve had pretty good luck with my 5 Toyotas over the years whether new or used with no warranty work required and only one check engine light between them all.

1984 SR5 sold because overseas assignment

    2003 Tacoma (had a P0456) crashed at 250,000 miles

2011 Camry no defects sold to upgrade at 170,000 miles

2015 Camry (Cam tower seepage after oil changes that stopped) current 150,000 miles

2021 Tundra no defects and current 28,000 miles used recreationally only … probably be the first Toyota that hard breaks because it isn’t driven much.

Oh, and Walt putting TRD Pro back together

I really hope that the class action lawsuits succeed and force Toyota to take care of its customers. Time for the nepo-baby Akio Toyoda to go. He spends time racing cars instead of running the company.

Especially when the only class action lawsuit I've seen convolutes the throttle hesitation issue with the engine failure issue. It totally misses the mark, IMO.

That said, I have to believe there's enough evidence available to prove Toyota is guilty of selling vehicles with a known serious safety risk. It boggles my mind that some young aggressive group of attorneys isn't all over this. This is the Information Age, after all. It wouldn't take a monumental effort to get enough exposure on this issue to pressure Toyota into doing the right thing. I don't buy the notion they are above the law.

Too bad Ralph Nader is 91 years old.

Yeah, I hear you. Not a lot of good options, but my dad always had ford trucks and they have all been great. I almost bought a Grenadier but decided to pass as the closest servicing dealer is 4 hours away. I ended up with a TRD Pro Tundra for reliability. The wipers would not turn off when I purchased, transmission has been flashed, brakes replaced for squeaking, and the lack of confidence in the engine has me regretting the purchase. Not to mention the higher depreciation on these due to the engine fiasco. That said, I really do like the truck, and it will make my 200 Land Cruiser last longer by keeping miles off of it.

I would guess my wife's next car will be a Honda.

The good news with the fords is I can get a Raptor for a huge discount and upgrade every couple years with very little cost. I just have not done it because I have had good experience with Toyota. If they don't make this right they may regret it.

They have a time breakdown on the video, I'm at the section where Greg and Nate are crying about the cease and desist letter he got, the Tundra forum, and why he got the letter. 36 minutes in as of right now.

It's been pretty good so far, just getting bogged down in the events that led up to his banning, Some Mods did get a mention though.

I would hardly call that "crying". He spelled out that the reason given to him by Toyota and the narrative given here was incorrect.

    Sure.

Anytime a person says, "i would have wiped my ass with the letter and sent it back" without knowing the story I consider it crying.

It's also a shame that The Car Care Nut got dragged into this conversation.

RG didn't say that, Nate did.
All RG said about TCCN is that he wanted to tear down the block but then stopped responding to him. There was conjecture as to the reason that communication stopped, but there wasn't any "dragging" in the conversation.
