Honestly I feel the opposite. Giving that extended warranty would show their belief in a solid motor to stand behind. Lack thereof IMHO does not remove that belief either.

While there is no evidence to counter your statement and lots of history that would agree, I would hope for them to do the right thing.

Also, an extended warranty and the consistent design revisions over the life of the engine leads me to believe/hope that eventually these trucks will be ok.

    100% my point.

typical of major corps, I mean I kinda get it, doesn't mean I like it.

they piss around too long, there goes the tundra reputation, its already taken significant damage in the enthusiast world (like these places) and Ill call it minor damage in the larger outside main stream world.

its still riding on the gen 1-2.5 at this point, but that is going to wear thin as this keep going on.

whether they admit anything or not, or provide any more details (none of that will happen), what they really need to do it FIX TEH FUCKING PROBLEM for real.

that they can do behind the scenes, but they just cant seem to get it figured out, even the part changes that you mentioned a year or two back haven't done it 100%.

that said, it has seemed to slow, which is probably even worse, that will allow them to relax into an "ok failure rate" and just short block the few that grenade.

LOL... as long as my engine keeps running until it gets replaced the extended schedule will be better. But if it fails next week on my road trip, not so much. Or on the next road trip next month. It should have been replaced long ago, IMO.

me too man, what I want and hope is one thing, I tend to just look at the reality of this.

They will sweep this under the rug, never 100% solve it for all the people that bought one already.

so extended warranty is highly advised for this, although anything new now a days is honestly in that same boat.

I will say, at least for how Im feeling today, the longer this goes on toyota, the less good Im feeling about my next truck being a tundra.

I mean, I have owned 5 and a shit ton of other Toyotas, my old man (RIP, miss you dad), worked really high up for toyota motor corp for a really long time, so I grew up in Toyotas, I cant even count or list how many we had, its a really high number, you name it , we had it.

but my confidence in you is starting to waiver a little bit here.

that said, your lucky the others are even more of shit show, LOL.

It really sucks because I enjoy our Tundra's and still believe them to be as good or better than my Ford's (which have also been problem free), but when it comes to voting with my wallet it's hard to support Toyota further in this.

They know exactly what the problem is, and how to fix it. It is just too expensive.

It's a simple delay tactic. Toyota just wants to wait until the original powertrain warranty expires and then it's on the owner's dime. Any non-recalled Tundra than makes it past the 60k miles / 5 year period is a win.

If you look at Toyota's history and how they dealt with safety and/or serious technical issues, it has always been "deny, deflect, delay":
    - First, deny there is a problem
    - Second, blame the owner or out-of-control circumstances
    - Third, once it is obvious that Toyota has to own the problem, drag their feet with the implementation hoping that people will forget, some of the vehicles recalled will end up in the junkyard for unrelated issues, etc.

Toyota cheats, lies and then claims ignorance.

I know people who worked at Toyota and Lexus at managerial positions. They told me that Toyota's corporate culture is one of the worst. There is discrimination against anybody who is not Japanese, sexism, constant bullying, and constant reminder that loyalty toward the company is more important than the law.

Maybe that dude with all the legal info can chime in here, but wouldn't/couldn't Toyota face a MASSIVE lawsuit knowingly selling faulty engines??

thats really well said there DFS, its "support Toyota further in this", that really sums it up since we are on like what year 4-5 of this bullshit?

so on the next time around, its going to be harder (not saying I wont) to further support toyota in this.

    spot on!!

Exactly. Toyota's business is not about making cars, it's about making money. At whatever cost. "Collateral damage" like a few dead drivers in defective vehicles is an acceptable inconvenience, as long as it's cheaper than fixing the problem.

Man, you and I are in the same boat. I only have 14K on my truck but the overall impression and worry has me feeling the same way. That being said, where are we going to go for the next truck? I saw an ad for an electric version of a Scout. That could be fun if the infrastructure gets there.

As Toyota has grown, their quality and customer service has declined. When my 4Runner qualified for the Takata recall, Toyota denied my rental car as required by the recall saying it was safe to drive, but they would not give that to me in writing.

And their treatment on this engine issues is abysmal as well. They have built a lot of good will with me as I've put on tons of miles on Toyotas with very little in maintenance. My enthusiasm for Toyota has declined. I sold my restored 84 pickup and 82 FJ40. Pretty sure my wifes next car won't be a Toyota. And Toyotas are all I have ever owned outside of a 64 Nova and the first pos car my parents gave me. I've owned 3 Tacomas, two Tundras, two camrys, 4 Land Cruisers, three 4Runners, and many were new. One of the companies I work for can get me a killer deal on Ford Trucks through their fleet program, but I've never taken them up on it, but I no longer have the enthusiasm for Toyotas.

I knew they'd decline in QC when they became the biggest car company, but I'm surprised at how much.

Why do I get the feeling that part of the issue is the surface finish on the crankshaft, like the GM 6.2’s. Tbh I halfway wish my truck would grenade so I have an actual excuse to go look at the new Armada.

    It's a combination of things.

Recall Remedy Engine Assembly failure has been confirmed on one with 11K on the clock.

just wait until you get teh ford though man, I mean that is the problem, I was stoked about one actually.

I went to Ford with my wallet ready was going to custom order a powerboost, black appearance package, loaded with the largest generator, etc.

test drove, the fucker blew up on the damn test drive. The guy was nice about it, was like we can fix it and then you can buy it, I was like no thanks man, I just cant do that.

I tested the tundra, really liked it, bought it and it's been good (not perfect) so far, I cant complain that much.

BUT, I did not know about the engine blow up thing at that time, nobody did, but with this ongoing deal that toyota just cant seem to solve, I'm not sure what I would do this time around knowing about it now.

Im probably in the worst spot, my truck was like the next off the line AFTER the recall trucks VIN end range.

100% an arbitrary build date chosen by Toyota and NHTSA.

It seems like the issues with the V35 are inconsistent, as in I don’t think it’s a design issue. Seems like a supplier and manufacturing issue so it could very well end up that your truck goes the distance without any real issues, my 2024 (manufactured 04/24, bought 07/24) has 21k miles on with the TRD performance package and I rip on it constantly and so far no issues other than the seat trim.

Well, "one" failure could be the same issue or really any number of other causes. Onsies and twosies don't make a legitimate data set. As I and others here have said repeatedly, we just don't have access to all the data. Toyota has it and they ain't talkin'.
