    Hi guys

    I own a 18' TRD OF, CrewMax.
I owned this since 2020, first time ever I was towing a trailer. Never towed in my life.
So I went to Uhaul and hooked a transport trailer to get my dad's Ford Taurus 14', when I hooked the trailer , my Tundra was displayed- No Trailer.
But my lights was working - brakes and turn signals.

Anyway , any suggestion why it won't recognized the trailer ?
Again, lights was working on trailer...its just weird..

There was a dealer update to the integrated brake controller in 2018 because it was having a ton of issues. Maybe you don't have it?

Most Uhauls don't have electric brakes I thought, they are surge brakes where the trailer pushing into the truck mechanically engages the trailer brakes. I would assume that's why the truck might not see the trailer since it was only a plug for the lights.

If it was a 4 pin plug that goes with my above post, 4 pins are only for lighting. The brakes may have felt bad but that's because the uhaul needs to lean into the truck to get the brakes to engage. If you had slammed on the brakes it would stop well enough, though keep in mind with any trailer your braking distance is longer since the truck has a lot more weight to slow down even with trailer brakes helping.

I tried, press manualy brakes controller, but still no response from trailer. It was moving like a train..
Does adapter 7 pin to 4 pin wuld work ?
And shuld a stop at dealer to get firmware update just in case ?

you won't be able to use electronic trailer brakes if you're hooking a trailer up with a 4 pin connector, has to be a 7 pin (adaptors will not work for trailer brakes either)

The 4 pin or flat 4 trailer connector does not control trailer brakes. Period. It has ground, running lights, right stop and left stop. As for the error you're getting, do as advised and check to see if your truck has been updated. My 21 doesn't give any errors when using the flat 4 pulling my boat.

This is the TSB number you can research for 7 pin issues and it detecting a trailer.

Save your money with dealership if you don't tow regularly. You will probably fail on step 1. of TSB as it pertains to electric/electric-over-hydraulic braking systems that are activated through 7 pin connector. Like mentioned above the 4 pin doesn't do anything except lighting and as far as I know any indications or warnings in MIDS.

Interesting ... I'll have to play with mine next time we tow the ATV'S with the 4 pin. Only way I can conceive a "no trailer " message is if you tried to setup trailer type and brakes through settings plugged into the 4 pin. But I could be wrong.

I tried, but it won't let me. It didn't do anything. Probably because it doesn't see a trailer .

Not only that, TSBs are only free during the warranty period. Hell, my 2016 Land Cruiser did not come with the towing harness (it was supposed to). Dealer confirmed the factory wire connectors were still on the plugs where the harness was supposed to plug in, and harness was not installed at port. Toyota still would not provide me with one because I was out of warranty. Toyota is definitely not the same company that made me a big Toyota fan.

My 2019 showed No Trailer the other day. I had not towed for a long time. It did show the little green trailer on the instrument display. But when I was driving and squeezing the trailer brake it displayed No Trailer. I went into the settings and added the size and brake type. That solved my problem.
