Started hearing a rubbing noise once my brakes got hot over the last month. Checking it out today and it looks like the rear inside brake pads have grooves in them on both sides. Initially, I thought it was just one side so I was thinking a stuck caliper, But there was a lot of corrosion around the brackets that could’ve been preventing them from sliding back. My question is what are the odds that both brake calipers are bad? Versus just some rusted pads and rotors that are 5 years old?

I’m thinking the calipers are okay. Back of the rotors where the rubbing occurred are pure rust. Now it’s just a matter of getting the rotors off.

Wow....I have never seen a rotor look like that. Was there grease on the caliper bolts?

My rubbing sound started when I replaced my pads and rotors, it ended up being caused by the corrosion on the shield behind the drum that the rotor goes over. It still makes noise sometimes when I turn but hoping eventually it will wear away

Yeah there was surprisingly. Living in the northeast I’ve seen them bad on my other vehicles but never like this.

I wonder if this little clip on the rear padswas keeping the pads from backing off after it got rusty. I made sure to grease it up really well

I had that problem on my wife's Civic. The inner pad was not sliding as much as the outer pads. I added some brake grease where the pads slide and had a significant change.
Are those OEM pads? Sorry for asking, but I haven't done my Tundra brakes yet.

Negative. OEM rotors but aftermarket pads. I think I swapped them a few years back, maybe even a year ago actually. Fingers crossed the extra grease helps avoid this in the future. Just bedded everything in and all sounds and feels well….

I kept looking at the inner brake pattern to see if the grease helped.
I live in Florida, so I have fair weather most of the time.
If you live where you see a lot of snow or go off-roading often, you might have to look at it more often than I did.

Definitely going to keep an eye on it going forward.
