Deaver K37 vs U748. Pros and cons ?

Debating between both .what are the pros and cons of both ? bed loaded and bed unloaded.

Not building an expedition rig so my bed doesn't have a lot of weight usually unless we go on a trip mostly sports gear ,snowboard ,camping gear etc..

I understand K37 is more for Go fast and U748 for expedition type of rig.

will be paired with Total Chaos shackles, KING 2.5 and TRD sway bar .Otherwise stock rear.

MCM FAB carries both. Wheelers has a combo deal on K37s.

I have the K37 XD which has 400lbs more weight capacity than the standard K37. The ride is amazing, especially paired with the ADS triple bypass shocks. I am very happy with the K37 but if the U748 was available when I made my purchase I would have gone with them. I have no experience with the U748 but those that have them say they ride great too.

I probably carry about 400lbs when wheeling and the truck has a slight negative rake with the K37.

It all depends on what you intend to do with your truck. I would call Matt at MCM to discuss your options. He’s a good guy and will steer you in the right direction.

 

What he said ^^^ call Matt he give you a better run down on both. I run the U748 deavers with MCM shackles and ADS triple bypass shocks deaver spec. I'm like you carry gear for my outdoor sports and of course when we out offroading. The ride is very good unloaded and not much sag when loaded. I have no experience with the K37 pack. Give Matt a call he set you up.

love the 748s in my truck. i've got the camburg 1.5 shackles. handles great. we'll see if anything changes when i put the rear bumper on but i'm not expecting anything.

I run the K37's with 400lbs and they do great until you exceed 600lbs. Then start to sag. The U748 pack is new and would be great if you carried weight all the time.
I would go k37 with ADS bypasses - that will give you the best ride but bypasses make noise and if you don't like that ask Matt if he can do nylon vavlves to keep the noise down.

how about driving around town, bed empty, dodging pot holes and Prius drivers ? K37 more comfortable ?
Truck is my daily driver too so it's important.

 

i have no problem dd'ing the 748s. truck sucks up potholes like i do with chocolate chip cookies.

 

Yup, I'm getting ready to upgrade too. I asked Joey at sdhq about these and this was his reply...

"If you planning on put a RTT and bunch of weight in the bed, the U748's are a good choice. If you plan on being empty and dont tow hardly ever, go with the K37's. Icon will be releasing their RXT pack in January. When paired with Icon's bumpstop kit it will give you 12" of usable travel and is all bolt on. The RXT's will have 3 different weight options that you can build them at making them similar to the U748's. The RXT pack will be thinner so you will get more bump and droop travel than compared to the Deaver kit."

 

i am upgrading from the k37's and ADS 2.5 bypasses just due to the fact i need more suspension. Going to the LT i96xhd pack and ADS 3.0 bypasses and ADS bumps. Just waiting on springs and shocks to be built

Matt works with ADS and deaver to come up with what will work best together valving, spring rate, etc. @M C M he probably end up chiming in.

 

Tuned for that setup.

 

I just need to know which one to get if I'm probably going to run the bed with minimal weight (maybe 200lbs). But will most likely get a rack and RTT in a year or two but maybe never.

 

which is why i would get this setup. if you want a bolt on and go.

 

I already have KING 2.5. Not planning on getting bypasses for now. I'm thinking Deaver K37 + Total Chaos shackles would work fine for me.

 

just go with the k37's until you decide.. I probably wouldn't if you plan to tow or haul anything that exceeds or gets close to weight capacity.. Also if you do sag a bit, I think the deavers are will get back their arch. @n2deep will give you the best feedback on it.

 

U748 sound like what will work for you.

Lol, they ride nice man. I drive my truck every day unloaded. Shit I don't even have the spare under there. And it rides smooth. But everyone's ass is different. So yours might feel it a little rougher than mine. Or mine likes it rougher. What were we talking about

 

Joon is sensitive.. emotionally and physically.

 

K37s are a great pack, ran them on my personal tundra for many years. Loaded up with quad, dirtbike, pw50, and a weekends worth of gear, they sagged to about 2" of uptravel, but the truck drove fine from Vegas to Ocotillo, Dumont, Amargosa, Glamis etc, just sat ass low. My moms DC is running K37s, it tows a boat, work trailer, etc, it sags a bit when hooked up, but does the job without any issue.

Tundras have very long springs, which makes them more weight sensitive, and why the K37s will always respond to weight more drastically.

The U748 has become a popular pack because it has the ability to increase off road performance with very minimal compromise as far as using the truck as a truck still. Its really is a multi use leaf pack, and the secondary stage works like an over load set up, but isn't as drastic as the factory diving board leaf.

Regarding the ICON RXT set up, the deavers are about 1" taller stack height vs a stock set up, so if the RXT is somewhere in between, the difference in uptravel is not very drastic, and this does not have anything to do with the droop travel. The taller stack height of the deavers allows a longer compressed length shock, which allows more shock travel, this is what my spec shocks are designed to take advantage of. The lift from the deavers helps give some more uptravel, and the shock takes full advantage of available droop travel. Anything over 13" on these trucks with SOA is shackle movement and not sprung travel. Anything longer than a 1.5" longer shackle can be detrimental to the life and performance of these aftermarket SOA leaf packs.

Any shock designed for stock leafs will limit the travel quite a bit with the deaver packs.

At the end of the day, the K37 is a kickass leaf pack, it just has its limitations, and you may see more maintenance involved in having the leafs rearched if you carry alot more weight.

Overland type set ups are becoming very popular, hence why I developed the U748 with Deaver and it has become so popular.

@M C M so as far as driving with light load, what would be the advantages of K37 over U748 ? also would you say K37 better for off road with light load than U748 ?

 

K37 is going to cycle easier, will generally have a softer ride on the street than the U748. K37 is also going to articulate easier unloaded.

Unloaded, or light load, K37 will generally have the performance advantage.

For supercharged applications, the U748 will have better axle wrap control as well.
