Ill be honest, while not the roar of the 5.7 V8, I like the V35 snarl.

I read his reasons. Wanted a Sequoia for family reasons, wanted to reuse as many of his accessories as possible. Now try posting something that makes a relevant point, if you have one.

you ask to name one person - and now that's not relevant. You either didn't read his thread or you're unable to comprehend rationale. Have a great day!

there has been more than 1 guy go from gen 3 back to gen 2/2.5 that I have seen here.

but there isnt a lot of them, I mean your going to take a big whack dumping a newer truck, no matter what it is.

Exactly - depreciation keeps more from doing it. It's hard to take a $10k + loss on a vehicle in a year or two.

yup, and its especially bitter on the gen 3s since they launched in covid and deals were none existent for a long time, most were over MSRP or at MSRP

going to have to keep them a while to dig out of that.

only more recently can you get good money off to take off some of that sting of new vehicle hit

plus, in all fairness, the newest gen 2.5 you can get is almost what, 5 years old now?

    less appealing to the masses.

of local note, Ive become kinda buddies with the guy who built this house and he has a connection in PHX that specializes in referb older yotas, he just got his wife a really nice V8 landcruiser for 14K and also my brother in law got a older taco for cheap as well, both in good condition.

They stopped making the best ones in 2017 or 2018. 2017 last year of no TSS, 2018 last year with a trans cooler.

Rear brakes going out prematurely has skyrocketed with radar cruise.

My point was only to shine a light on the silliness of claiming people choose a gen 3 Tundra for superior tech and flashiness. ALL opinions are subjective by definition, even yours. But Toyota now uses "leather trimmed" seats in their upper trims. Ram Limited and Tungsten use 100% leather upholstry. Those are facts.

That's nonsense. A G2+ has had its depreciation hit already. Trading a G3 for a G2+ would put cash in your pocket.

As long as you can find a bank willing to roll that $20k negative equity into a 10 year old truck.

I would not say thats the case for many though, tons of guys bought MSRP or over MSRP and your going to be underwater and take a large hit within the first few years.

I paid $67K for my 1794 6/23 out the door with taxes yada, yada.. $63K for the truck only. 30K on it now and the Carvana deal was $47K a couple of weeks ago. $15-20K for 2 years but it probably flattens out.
Love the tint, bed cover and other things I've done. Fixing the brakes and putting some Pirellis on it are a game changer. I'm holding for a while.

The trade-in value of my '23 is $18-20K less than I paid for it. No financing involved, I wrote a check for it.

That puts the trade-in at around $40-42K, which is where most of the lowest mileage 2.5s are at. So it would be basically a wash for me.

Yes, I know I could sell my '23 myself for more, but I like the convenience of trading in.

I have no idea what my truck is worth havent really looked it up. Im guessing its lost a pretty good amount, but then again everything this expensive tends to do that.

my gen 2.5 didnt exactly set the world on fire at trade in time either. it is what it is, these are depreciating assets.

where are you checking your trade value? Im guessing your truck was like mine, maybe 68K or so MSRP? I think mine is north of 40K still though, I dont think its that low

it will absolutely flatten out, the first two years are the worst as far as those things goes its always been that way no matter what you drive.

thats what boathauler and I were saying, bailing on a 2 year old or so truck is brutal in most cases.

Honestly I don't recall the exact numbers. I paid MSRP because that was the best deal you could find at that time. I think that was around $62K. It's a non-hybrid, non-TRD 1794.

My point is, trading in my '23 for a low mileage Gen 2.5 would not put cash in my pocket. Here's a 2021 with 16K miles on Caravan for $45,590 with a "purchase in progress".

You alone have a perfect set of circumstances that are in alignment for migrating to the most cherry, lowest mileage G2.5 5.7L existing on the planet. And let's be honest, you ARE giving it some thought, as your calcs above indicate. I am not saying this to make a winning point. My sense is you don't want a used truck, even one that's good for 300,000 miles, and therin lies the answer for why no one else is going back to the G2+, either. We move forward.

I don't think $15K in 2yrs and 30K miles is bad. It's what an adult should expect and agree that it will flatten out.
I've had some cars that depreciated so much it brought tears to my eyes.
The main thing is that I like the truck again. I'm looking forward to driving it 800 miles this weekend.
