Agreed. My local GM dealer has been great to work with. I was a bit apprehensive when I had a warranty issue because of what I had read online but they have won me over with service and professionalism.

And here’s where it gets really muddy. Some guys on this exact thread would be annoyed to no end that Toyota would dare send a mirror on their truck that they would have to waste time on getting replaced even if they got the exact same service as this. Dealerships differ but so do customer expectations! I know there’s been recalls on the 3rd gen, which would be expected on any new platform from any brand. Agreed the engine issue is a big one but still, it is what it is. So, with that being said and if small things like most of the recall stuff or replacing a mirror evens out, I can also say that I have a 3rd gen with zero issues and I bet there’s a pile of people on here that would say the same.

    Lots of stuff!
I was really settling into our Tundra and tweaking by copying much of what others have done on this site. It may be that we come back to Toyota again!

The mirror was a surprise a how this dealer took it on without hesitation. With the Tundra I went around to the mirrors and glued the camera plates on after reading about the challenges the others were having in getting them replaced after they flew off. I was ready for the possible approach from GM sort of like: "It's your fault that the camera plate and camera are gone! You were driving the truck at the time..." or something like that :)

There are some lingering transmission issues that GM is plagued with but they might be turning the corner on the valve body supply. Seems like they all have issues and if they step up and take care of our needs or exceed our expectations, we can live with the future issues as they come up.

    No kidding there.

Just sit back, grab some popcorn and watch. Get more worried about what actually happens with YOUR truck. These are amazing trucks. There are so many electronic items on our trucks today. You will hear about every glitch. Every said failure. Every bad experience. Realize that as Americans, we love to gripe. I have done it also.

Just pure speculation on my part, but I am basing this off of what we have seen at our shop. But maybe they had an oil change done at an aftermarket place that didn’t clean up well and old oil caught fire???

Car and garage fires are not particular to any brand or model. Other than Kias of a certain vintage. I live in a low crime region so any fire is front page news. They happen in parking lots, on side of expressway and in garages periodically.

Having an attached garage is always some risk that is not zero. Within last year 2 houses in my town have burned due to garage fires.

I think they still use the version of the engine from the 2018-2020 failures in subsequent model years of the Oddessey and Ridgeline. There is a newer version that is not involved. Ot at least Honda is saying it's not.

There's a little too much involvement around the battery and it's sitting in a parking lot. Skeptic in me wonders if the owner was messing around, subs, stereo, can only guess. Isn't the engine cover missing, or is that just burned away?

I’ve had all of my Oil Changes done AT Toyota and they’re always messy and sloppy.

I even asked to go in the back once because there was so much oil on the block I was convinced there was a leak somewhere. Nope, apparently it’s a crappy design with the filter and takes 3 extra seconds to not make a mess.

Therefore most people (Toyota techs included) just pop the filter off with no care and the oil drains all over the block….them downpipes and turbos must get prettttttty hot. I’m sure it just a matter of time.

I wasn't by any means trying to imply that a dealer would be perfect, but I truly would expect them to be VERY clean on cleaning up...

Did you watch the video of the truck actually on fire? If yes, are you suggesting the video is make-believe? Or maybe an elf or leprechaun started the fire? Or some cranky-pants GenDeucehole saw a nice 3rd Gen in a parking lot, minding its own business, and said GenDoucher couldn't control his rage and set fire to the truck?

You got him on that for sure. There is no doubt in the world that is for sure a connecting rod or main bearing caused fire. The color of the flames gives it away. Alway make sure you put people in their place when doubting your speculation.
