I am a first time Tundra owner. Previous truck was a ‘13 Silverado crew. My Chevy was a fine vehicle and served me well for the last 5 years but started leaking oil and the body devolved significant rust problems. It was time to upgrade and I’m very pleased with my new ride! Switching to Toyota has been a goal of mine for a long time and I wish I had sooner.
I am a custom trim/finish carpenter and use my vehicle for work and personal use. It takes many tools and good organization to work efficiently in my trade. I am always looking for new ways to maximize my truck storage in ways that allow me to locate and store my tools. I own and use a 12’ box trailer for my larger tools and materials and I carry my most used items in my vehicle. As a new Toyota owner I hope to educate myself through others experiences via this forum!

    Current set up:

    Truck bed:

-Maktrak tool boxes for large and small hand tools (Dewalt power tools - I have 1 or 2 of everything lol).

-2 step and 3 step folding stools

    -6’ king komo ladder

    Cab:

    - Dewalt 12v drill/driver, larger impact driver
    -surplus fasteners
-Diamondback tool vest with mazo trim bags
    -rolling mechanics stool
-Sola level set (stored in stabila bag. Sola doesn’t make a handy multi level soft bag).

    ***current mod needs***

    looking for solutions!

-place to hang tool vest inside cab that is semi secure, keeps tools from falling out in transport, does not take up too much space.

-solution for tool boxes shifting and sliding in truck bed. But allows for ease of loading and unloading.

    Cheers!

    Welcome from South Central Tennessee!

    Whereabouts are you driving?

My 2006 Chevy Colorado went 195k trouble free miles over 20 years before the rust got to it from midwest snow and salt storms.

    Congratulations on the new Tundra!

I live and work in southwest Missouri. We get all the weather here - snow and ice storms to tornados. I try and wash my vehicle after driving on the salted roads as much as I can in the winter. But eventually lost the rust battle. My 13’ Silverado had 210k miles when I traded it. Never had any major issues with it the 5+ years I owned it. Almost bought another Chevy but went with Toyota this time.

Very nice! I considered buying a Decked drawer system but it would make it almost impossible to load and transport larger tools like my table saw and miter. I’ve already hurt my back a couple of times lifting my larger equipment. Your slide out bed tray might be something I should look into:)

    Eh-Loha and welcome aboard!

nice looking truck. Real nice setup in the bed. You may want to pay a visit to the Milwaukee thread and show them your Milwaukee slide out. They will love it!

Welcome from OKC! IMO trailers are generally better. You can always tow with something else when the truck is down. The truck is available for other uses, and so on. It enables you to leave a man on site with tools while you go grab materials or bid other jobs too. Just make a list of pros and cons too see what works for you.

Yea you get the best of all seasons out there, but it is beautiful country.

I felt a little guilty going away from Chevy myself, my last three trucks were Chevy and all were good trucks, but the newest one was a 2006 and a lot has changed since then.

I have only owned my Tundra for a few weeks now, but have owned a few Toyotas and have always been happy with the cars.

I am having fun learning here and doing maintenance on the truck.

I hope you post your continuing thoughts here, I will be interested in a fellow "recovering Chevy guy's" thoughts.
