Back passenger door won’t open from inside or out

Hey everyone I got a 2004 double cab where the back passenger door won’t open from inside or out. Originally it started from the inside where I could only open it from the outside. I opened up the door panel to see what was happening and it looked as if the pull wire came off from the door latch assembly. Didn’t have time to fix it so I put it back together the way it was and since then the outside won’t open now either. Any help for what to do to get it open?

Thanks you I took a look at those but it seems those issues are both with access cabs where it’s easier to get into the rear door. On the double cab there isn’t an easy access area except through the inside door handle.

 

When putting back together, did you accidentally leave inside door lock button in lock position ?
Did you plug the door/window switch in good, in case it matters.

Getting door card back off is gonna have to happen IMHO but the 2 biggest obstacles that will probably be damaged are the 2 pins on door edge.There’s only about 1/2” access to play with when door is shut. You might even have to remove the seats so as not to damage the door card any more than you have to in order to unsnap all the clips around edge.

 

Honestly, your best bet may be a body shop, they may have a trick for you, they have to deal with this periodically.

If not, roll the window down, so you have room to work inside the door, and try to pull on the latch arm, or actuate the arm that pulls the cable.

 

Missed it was a rear door, I appreciate you always catch the small stuff I totally miss, my AC doesn't have true rear doors, so I always forget about the child lock situation.

Is it possible to slide something thin and plastic in the gap of the door to push the child lock lever up? Or is it too tight when the rear doors on the DC are closed?

Thanks for the ideas. I’ll roll down the window and take my back seats out to get some more room to play with it.

 

I would first try raising the pass seat to it’s full upright position. You might then be able to unsnap most of the clips, then lower seat and unsnap rest, if/when you get that far…..Patience !

 

Unfortunately that button is back another 3” even from the 2 clips and can not be accessed even if C pillar trim was all off.

 

I was able to get the door card off and get the opening assembly working but now this happened….went to undo my door handle and this bolt won’t come off the little lock ring thing. Tried having 2 people hold onto it with channel locks and me on the inside loosening it but it won’t work still. Any ideas? Thanks!

 

You may have reached the last resort....cut bolt off

 

Snapped it off. Anyone know where you can get one of these?

 

I can't tell 100% which bolt it is to be able to look it up. But if it's the bolt I'm boxing in red here, that 10-digit hyphenated number is the part# for the bolt (the other shorter numbers are indexes, not actual part numbers). If that receiver was buried inside the handle, I dunno how it was held in, but if it pulled/broke out, maybe your best bet is hitting fleaBay to buy an OEM used handle in a matching color?

Late reply but I ended up retapping the nut that goes in the door handles and epoxied the threaded adaptor to the handle. Got a new bolt for the thread pitch and surprisingly it is holding up and no issues(knock on wood) if it happens again I’ll probably just order a new handle. Thanks for the help everyone

 

Parts are being slowly discontinued for our truck. You may end up having to order from fleaBay or a salvage yard when the time comes, but that's preferable, because you'll be able to get something paint-matched going that route; anything you get from Toyota will arrive unpainted, typically. (for exterior parts)
