That's one weird thing about driving I have never understood. We live out west and drive through mountains regularly where the roads tend to follow rivers and passing lanes are few and far between. A lot of city drivers or prairie livin folks who are scared to go around a corner so are habitually going under the speed limit, typically 60mph, but get to a passing lane and are doing 70-75mph and usually sitting in the fast lane right beside the semi / rv that everyone is trying to pass!

Been going on since I started driving at 16 and is still going on now at 63. I just can't figure out why they don't just keep driving their comfortable speed and let people pass, very weird and totally frustrating behavior.

3rd gen Tacoma life. That transmission was all over the place. Haven't noticed it once on the 10 speed.

It may be that these drivers feel the need to police other drivers by blocking them from driving faster than the posted speeds +1.

Of course I know what is good for everyone else, so I get to decide for everyone what speeds all those around me should be driving. No one else has that right to decide that for me in return, because they are too dumb, of course. Only I know what is best. :D

(Repeat the above five times every morning facing the sunrise while standing on one leg at least five days a week, and three times before going for any drive, and in a few years, you will begin to see the wisdom of what I have posted above too.)

The whole speeding discussion started with the guy who admitted passing on "hill climbs" at 95+ mph with 5 passengers. IMO, there's no justification for that.

I do understand the frustration over slower drivers who speed up when you attempt to pass them. But that's no excuse to blatantly ignore the speed limit by over 25 mph, IMO.

I’m pretty sure that would qualify for a “wreckless driving” ticket if the popo were involved.

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

I actually just did this yesterday coming home, following a line of cars doing just under the speed limit following parade style, 6 cars. Came to a long straight stretch, no oncoming traffic and no one is passing, so I pulled out and passed all 6 cars and was doing probably 140-150 km/h (85-95mph) by the time I pulled back in, good visibility no oncoming cars in sight and watching closely to see if anyone decided to pull out and pass. Yes that's fast and in fact is into impound territory at 40km over, but I would say safer than watching people make very unsafe passes on blind corners and hills because they are so frustrated. Those drivers put themselves and everyone around them in danger by they're "wreckless" & "reckless" driving, of which we had just witnessed a few minutes before I passed those cars. They forced a car in our lane to grab the shoulder as they were forced back into our lane by an oncoming car they had no way of seeing due to their absolute stupid time to try to pass.

Once I completed my pass I set the cruise at 110km/h (6-7mph over) and just enjoyed the rest of our drive, never did see another car coming up from behind.

Some states either loosely or through codification allow you to exceed the speed limit when passing. Idaho allows 15mph over to pass. When I pass someone I floor it to get back in my lane as soon as possible, and the Tundra really goes when you floor it. The people driving 15-20 under the speed limit that I have to pass are the ones creating a dangerous condition.

In MT, you are required to pull over when you have 3 more more cars stacked behind you from driving slow. Some actually follow the rule. Most do not.

The Idaho law comes with the conditions that the posted speed limit is 55 or above, and the slower traffic is driving below the speed limit.

In Montana, it's 4 or more cars behind you, not 3. And it only applies to "slow moving" vehicles that are impeding traffic. You aren't required to pull over if you are driving the speed limit just because you have impatient a-holes behind you.

They have slow lane pullouts, Oregon does as well. Slow car simply pulls into the extended shoulder, lift off the gas, everyone passes and they pull back in. Simple effective, and it works. (When they get used).

The impeding traffic laws, that require you to pull over if you have a stack of cars behind you, are intended for slow moving vehicles that can't keep up with the normal flow of traffic. They DO NOT give the right-of-way to speeders.

As an owner of a large RV, who frequently travels in the Rocky Mountains, I often pull over as a courtesy to cars behind me. I've also learned that no matter how fast I drive over the speed limit, it's not fast enough for some impatient drivers. Screw them.

I call it common courtesy, I drive the speed I feel comfortable at, not for me to decide what that is for someone else.

If I'm driving the speed limit, or slightly over, I don't feel any obligation to be courteous to impatient a-holes who tailgate me and flash their lights at me. In fact, I kinda enjoy irritating them.

This whole overtaking and speeding theme is derailing the engine grenade feel..... Not sure I like being distracted by waiting for my rig to explode..., although perhaps hammering the Go-Fast pedal might accelerate the process... Although nuts.., I have a hybrid, so no soup for me...

    Carry on....

When I am travelling, it is usually with the trailer so I am not going to go any faster than 70 mph. If there is a right lane I will move over and let everyone go by, but at the speed I am travelling, there usually is a slower driver behind me holding up the works so I don't see too many cars trying to drive under my trailer to get past me. :)

I let them pass as soon as I can so they can get away as far as possible from me when they hit something. Don’t like the idea of being collateral damage in some prick’s accident!

    Hopefully. or.....
I'd guess (speaking in generalities only) that more 3rd gen owners are 1st time Toyota folks than any of the previous generations. Probably not enthusiasts either. Probably not dialed into enthusiast Internet forums.

    I bet that's a part of it.

If I remember his post correctly, it's a late build 2024... And being in Canada, Toyota only covers 5 days of the rental
